I managed to get a Gates belt for £24 so went for that as they have a good name in timing belts. I am over half way through the job now. One problem I found was that I just could not entirely remove the lower timing belt cover from the car; there was always something in the way no matter whether I tried to get it out upwards or downwards. It is possible to change the belt with it still hanging around and generally getting in the way but thats what I had to do. Also you need to be a contortionist to reach some of the cover and pulley bolts; there is not much room between the end of the engine and the inner wing. Also I had to unmount the water reservoir and power steering reservoir so I could get a spanner onto the engine mounts. The old belt was well knackered; dry on the back and the tension was pretty slack; like flopping about for 2.5cm. Its a car I just bought so I think I'm lucky it didn't snap driving home.
