hey all, my names jeff (bulldog) got an 08 Accent SE (ice blue, and have been teased by many for this color choice, but i really like it) haven't ever had a hatch car, but WOW i really like this one. i have only found a few things i don't like about this car, and after reading most of the threads, they are common complaints (hint, hint H

COMPLAINTS
1. i want/need my cruise control
2. i WANT a 6th gear
3. Mats (standard) (i'm going to order the rubber Accent ones)
4. Steering wheel controls (for the radio)
5. drivers seat could use 1 more " of scoot back
6. seatbelt needs to attach to frt. seat
7. not much more complaints than that
8. OH yeah: optional leather interior would be nice w/ baseball stitching :P
9. wished it had the sunroof (i was impatient, and needed a car NOW (which explains the ice blue color))

LIKES
1. Looks are just about perfect
2. it's FUN to drive
3. for an econ. car the radio is quite nice
4. decent fuel mileage (also a complaint: it needs a 6th gear BAD)
5. i go to bed at night excited about my commute to work, and the ride home in this car. (crazy i know)
6. enough room for 4 easily.

i've got a few hobbies: sportbikes my main one though (07 CBR1000RR which i track frequently)
i also look forward to modding the ACCENT soon. just a couple of bolt-ons.

MPG are 31-38.9 mostly highway use (that 3.5Krpm @ 70mph kills it's ability for 40+ mpg)

Congrats on the purchase!

What's wrong with the mats it came with? No car comes with the rubber winter mats off the lot. And personally I've never understood steering wheel controls for the radio, one of my cars had it, never used it, was always easier and faster to do it with the radio, ended up changing the steering wheel to one that didn't have it as I found it ugly. Seat belt attach to the front seat? Not many cars do that as it can be unsafe, almost always bolts to the floor underneath. Oh, and my car has cruise :P

Of all those, really, there are only 2 that I care about, cruise should be an option, and it could definately use a 6th gear, but the prices will go up, and you would be better off buying the automatic so it's all understandable, as it is just a little fart rocket, cheapest car you can buy.

floor mats weren't standard at all. (i'm using the "we care about your car" piece of paper right now. haha. and for the seatbelt it needs attached to the top of the seat so i don't have to reach ALL the way back to grab it (this is the first car i've ever had or rode in that didn't have it that way (except for Tempos, those were horrible) i only complain about the seatbelt because as i was trying to reach back after a long hot day at work after stopping to sneak a twist waffle cone yogurt from braums i accidently hit the headliner w/ the icecream. Thank God i was able to get out the stain when i got home. But man was i mad when i did it. I NEVER wanted steering wheel controls either until my last car had them. then i bought my wife a 07 EDGE w/ the controls. after having them i feel there much safer to have than reaching over to the radio>>i change stations probably 100 plus times on my way to work, and my way home.

I hear you on the "having to reach all the way back for the seatbelts", but you'll get used to it, trust me.. it's not that bad.

As for the 6th gear/5th gear for automatics, that's one thing that would have made a LOT more sense.... the 2008 Honda Civics have a 5th gear for the automatics, so why the **** don't we? Oh well. Our engine is also small as ****.

Oooooh, I see what you mean about the seat belts, you want a loop attached to the headrest so the seatbelt doesn't go all the way back. I definately do agree with you on that one, it is a pain, usually find myself driving without it as when I had the dash apart, I got rid of that annoying chime.

Hey welcome and congrats.

There are steering wheel controls available in Australia I believe, but don't quote me on that. I know I've seen them, tho.

You can probably buy a seatbelt loop thingy and just screw it into your seat.

3.5 at 70MPH doesn't sound right though. I just got back from a 3-hour tour (insert appropriate Gilligan's Island joke here) and I was cruising at 75 almost the whole way and I was just under 3K. I have a SRI, so maybe thats why, but I don't think so. Oh wait, you have a manual, huh? Nevermind.

Anyway, welcome again. Remember to add a Hyundai-forum sticker to your list of mods.

Not sure how that's possible.

Running my car at 70MPH brings it to about 3,000 RPM (Automatic. The Final Gear ratio is a tiny bit worse on the manual)

i know a 6th gear in a manual would be **** near useless. i would only be good for maintaining speed. You would not be able to accelerate at all.
I have been doing quite a bit of mountain driving this weekend and 5th gear has been all but useless.

Well yeah, it IS a tiny engine, so it really does need to rev higher to maintain any kind of power, unlike my previous car's 1.8L 126HP. But still. For flat terrain cruising, it would be nice.

80mph=4Krpm w/ the stick shift. my commute is 80 miles round trip. 90% flat land w/ about 5 stop lights total. i do see what you all mean w/ the 6th gear being worthless if there are any hills at all. the family and i made a trip (150 miles or so) to eat some chicken yesterday. lots of hills i had to drop to 4th and had there been any traffic, 3rd would have been used. But----- i love this car. just some small suggestions for hyundai to apply to the next gen. thanks for all the warm welcomes!!!

 that's funny. I live in Chouteau, OK we like this one place called AQ chicken house in Arkansas. very good chicken. but i mostly wanted to put some miles on my new car other than commuting. took some slightly twistie roads home>>> with very little fine tuning this car will rail thru twisties :w00t:

i could have drove to my dads house (15 miles from mine) he has around 200,000 thousand chickens right now. (he has a chicken farm)

that better be some d am n good chicken for those kind of miles!! lol

in the middle of nowhere in PA?! try in western nebraska where my brother lives... his closest neighbor is 2 miles away, his mailbox is 3 miles away, the main PAVED road is 6 miles away.... now THATS the middle of nowhere! lol but its all good bro!

manual trans rev higher than the autos in these cars... mine is manual and hits 3K RPM at about 60mph, 3500 RPM at 75mph the guys in here with the autos can give you their numbers.. hoosier? tooslo? Kat? (think you have auto)

anyways, welcome, congrats on the new car, have fun, be careful!!

:00000732: You couldn't have been "stuck" with a better color!!!

The Hyundai Australia website does show the steering wheel mounted radio controls so a retrofit may be possible. Cruise control will be available on the 09's, again maybe retrofit.

I've gotten used to the seatbelt, I just reach around with my right hand and grab it.

it's very possible, I did it again after work this morning a couple of times, just because you made me doubt myself. Shame on you!

The pic is from my celly while I was driving. and no I wasn't coasting, I was maintaining ~75MPH.
