for picky ppl like me it seems like a good idea..i noticed the edge is flat and wouldnt produce the most efficient air flow then say...a TB with rounded and thinned out edges..

..so i got the dremmel out and a mini grinding stone disc and went to it...

now i know the only effects it would have would be fairly small..but in higher RPM's its be way more efficient seeing as the air has nothing obstructing its flow...right?

The only way to know would be to flow bench test your throttle body. If you give me some time, I can see if can find an article where some created a flow bench tester in their garage for calibrating MAF's. I dont see why it wouldnt work to test your throttle body. Otherwise the only way to know would be to put it on a dyno.

Not sure how far you are willing to go with this. I personally would not try this unless someone could put up proof it did anything.

Yes, thing is the TB is designed to flow more air than the stock engine needs anyway, in a stock application, the TB shouldn't be a restriction. Even flow testing it wouldn't prove it's any better for the engine though, a say you gain... 10cfm by doing this, totaling 110cfm to keep it simple, engine at peak needs say, 80cfm, you won't notice any gain despite the higher flow rating, and generally a loss will occur if you're flowing too much for what the engine needs, hurting your air-speed through the intake.

this is a good read on MAFs from my old forum. But you can use the same setup to flow bench test your throttle body

DIY flow bench test

if you do some googling, people have set these up using calibrated MAFs, or tubes of water.

So much to learn about this motor. do you know how much our motor flows at full throttle? In conjunction, would happen to know the VE for our motor stock?

Problem with that is it's a very crude way of doing it, accuracy will be terrible, only true way to test CFM is with water, as now everything is controlled. I see an immediate problem with his set-up. His valve he has on there is a flat plate, for what he is doing, to measure properly he would need a butterfly valve of some sort as, a lot of turbulance would be created once that air hit that plate, giving off false readings.

Also, what about air temperature, he has nothing to measure and calibrate it for air-charge temp. which is another thing with a MAF. Air gets denser as it gets colder, and less-dense as it gets warmer, same with barometric pressure. All of these have to be accounted for when getting a true flow test. Which is why they use water.

I'm sure I could figure it out without a problem, give me a few minutes and ill see if I can find bore and stroke for our little fart rocket. VE on any street car is generally 75-85%

in the area of 170cfm at 6 grand. at 80VE

Had to know all this crap when I built the motor for my Mustang, and kept it fuel injected :\ that was a pain in the **** trying to find everything so it all worked together properly..

this doesnt even justify a response but if you dont want to learn, then why would you post your mod? I gave you a good place to start investigating if it would actually produce results.

So based on your response I can assume you like to make permanent, warranty killing changes to your $10K+ plus car, and not care about whether it did anything??? Sounds like you arent smart enough to have a girlfriend.

I was in the same boat when I was investigating going turbo with my last ride. However, I never had to calculate VE for myself, because there was PLENTY of information out there for an SR20, as you might imagine.

I haven't had a good look at our throttle body in sometime, But with my old LC2 when I grinded out the throttle an extra 4mm it did make a diffrance. grinding out hte edges might not do anythign but it might do a little as well. if it doesn't harm anything do it, only way to truely find out.

Rounding the edges of the throttle body could cut down on turbalance by having a smoother transition into the TB.
Just to add ,once you have the addition of a header, catback, and intake .
The throttle body could become a restriction as you have increased flow to and away from engine.I'm not sure how efficiently our valves fow at the lift and duration they have. But they or the throttle body would then offer restriction similar to an hour glass in air flow.If the valves and head can handle the increase then a bigger bore throttle body would help.
