I have owned my 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS manual with the Theta II motor for about 6 months now. I have come to the conclusion that it's the biggest problematic car I've ever owned.

Just as soon as i finished an eight page write-up for the States Attorneys office, the bomb dropped. I print the document, pack everything up, load it in the car, push the clutch in, start the car................BLAM, the cluch pedal goes to the floor, the engine dies, and there are parts of the transmission surrounded by a pool of oil. This is the most money I've ever paid to travel 12,800 miles.

So now it sits in the driveway until Hyundai sends there Analyist to get it. I truly hope everyone here has better luck.

I'll keep you posted, my local news chanell here in CT is run by a freind of mine. He said it would be no problem having a complete news story, and investigation team come and do a story.

Hang on to your seat Hyundai, this is gonna get messy!

Sorry about that men.
I remember you said you gonna make some changes to ECU with ELM327. Did you?
If so, I wouldn't mention that to rep. Also change it back quick if you can.

Yea that Hyundai Annalist will be Driving a Tow Truck and wearing a Uniform.

Cars break. You must live in an awfully small Town like mine, if the TV News

will do a feature Story on your Hyundai breaking. Why we have no local TV

Yup, I agree 100%. It's not an "analyst", it's a tow truck driver, and it will be taken to your dealership to be fixed under warranty. I understand your frustration at the inconvenience, but you won't be paying anything, so what's the big deal? A 6 pm news story about a repair that will be covered under warranty?

Unless Hyundai has already declined to repair your car under warranty, I think filing a complaint with the Attorney General and providing the local news station with a story might be premature.

If Hyundai declines the repair, then have your consumer resources: BBB, Attorney General, your lawyer, News Station, whatever else you have available, but at least give them a chance to fix it first before you pull out the big guns. It's not going to look good to either the Attorney General or the News Station if you haven't at least given Hyundai a chance to look at it. You will strengthen your case if you give the car maker a chance to fix it first.

If they come back with some nonsense about the issue not being covered by warranty or don't fix the car properly, fire away!

But I would definitely go through ALL the applicable Hyundai channels before getting other folks involved.

Hope everything works out for you!

That eight page write-up for the States Attorneys office was written BEFORE the car broke down, if I read it right.... I don't remember what other issue promted you to write that eight pager....

.... But I remember you having some complaints....

.... No, I don't think this is a story for the local TV news broadcast....

.... Unless life there in small town CT is so utterly BORING.....

Tha 8 page write up came from the experiences from the car's check engine light being on 5 times, the 7 trips to the dealer (3 different dealers) for the same problem, having the vehicle die on me 6 times, the left front tire being positive cambered, the right front wheel bearing vibration, and having incompetant mechanics that zip tie wires to power steering hoses, falsified repair documents, and theft government property.
I gave them a chance, they blew it. The gloves came off.
And no the represenative is not a tow truck driver. The reginal Rep himself is coming.
Yes I have connections to the State of Connecticut, I am a PVT in the 1st Company's Governors Guard.
I am personal friends with directors of Channel 3, WFSB
And NO modifications were just for this reason, I had a feeling it give up on me.

Hm... I didn't know there was an issue already, file those complaints (they will have to respond to them) -- hopefully that will get the attention of Hyundai and get your issues resolved.

Also send a copy to:

Department of Motor Vehicles
Dealers and Repairers Division

http://www.ct.gov/ag/cwp/view.asp?A=2066&Q=292356

Good luck!

WTF, that sucks. I have the same car as yours and live in CT as well. I haven't experienced any of those problems.
Do you have any pics of the carnage? :whistling:

Camper2099, The first indication i had was the clutch pedal sticking as it came up.
I didn't think much of it untill it blew up. I did notice it was harder than normal to push in just before it popped.

Where do you go to have it serviced?

WOW sorry dude. That seems so unacceptable. I understand that stuff happens and no line of any product is 100% problem free, but ****. It happens I guess, but Hyundai should be kissing your **** right now. Like others have said, if they don't quicky and fully address your tranny problem, then yeah, do what you gotta do. There's no reason for that stuff to go down.

Gotta be honest, this is one of the reasons I'm nervous about getting a Hyundai. I know A LOT of happy owners, but at the same time, it seemsl ike the complaints are pretty severe. I guess no car line is guarenteed though. Still, YIKES.

there are many more satisfied Sonata drivers than unhappy ones. Unfortunately, Sort Em got a bad car (so it seems). It happens with every Manufacturer and every car model. If Hyundai is willing to fix the problem under warranty, well, then that's part of the reason people buy the cars...

Sort Em, I feel your pain mate... my last car had a lot of problems (Escort ZX2) and it turned me off from every buying a Ford again... Luckily for you, Hyundai's warranty should cover it (well, hopefully so)... I wish my Escort had the same kind of warranty when I bought it... Hope you get everything fixed/replaced

Had Similar problem with a new Buick I bought in 1987, it was the 2door Somerset model and had 25 miles on it. 24 of those miles were put on by our test driving the car.Had the car 18 months and was in the shop 16 times. Went through the Lemon Law procedure and finally gave up and traded the car in for a new Grand Prix in 1989. Drove that car for 10 years and it was junk at the end. (Took many awards at area car shows until later years when the car just started falling apart.) Bought first Hyundai (2000 Elantra) in 1999 and drove it for 9 years 98,000 miles with no problems. Right before trading it off (as it was close to being out of warranty) I took it in for a recall repair and clicking noise in front end. They fixed the warranty repair and put in two new drive axels all at no cost. Bought new 2007 Sonata SE V6 in January of 2008 and have had no major problems, only some minor cosmetic repairs all covered under warranty. Give Hyundai a chance or better yet try another Hyundai dealer. I don't know which part of CT you are in but There are probably quite a few dealers in a 50 to 100 mile radius. In my area there are 4 Hyundai Dealers in a fifty mile radius, and there are 2 that I WILL NOT TAKE MY CAR TO due to past experiences with that dealer. Good luck and I hope they can get you taken care of.

Perhaps some of your problems are related to putting that z-max snake oil into your vehicle..

http://www.hyundai-forums.com/index.php?sh...ndpost&p=181539

Did you put that into the tranny too? You do know that stuff doesn't work and produces more issues then anything, right?

http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2001/02/zmax1.shtm

I hope you can get this resolved, but if you put that crap into your car no wonder your having all those issues.

You know they still sell Z-Max. I wound up getting a $30 Check from a Class

Action Suit against Z-Max. You put the Blue stuff here, the Green stuff in there,

the Purple goo in your Oil, and the Red stuff in your Tranny & you're Good to Go!

I even bought an extended Service Contract from the additive people, Wynn.

And sure enough they send you a box of Colorful Fluids to add, which then activates coverage!

Very good point. Never mind the Miracle Grow he mentions putting in his gas tank. No wonder the check engine light comes on from time to time.
