Hello all,
Alright ,
My grandeur is lacking power and acceleration. It has had the timing belt replaced recently, plugs, leads, spark plug seals (was leaking oil on top plugs), MAf sensor and Battery (is now the best bosch 68), oil/filter and a tune.
The car starts fine, sounds a little of time but runs ok. In first and second it seems to be fine...it's when you hit third gear you feel a sudden power loss, foot could be down to the floor and the car feels like it just cant pull the weight. Fourth and fifth are worse. After getting the MAF sensor replaced 2 days ago it made a big difference in economy and a little in power.
What I don't get is that you can put your gently push on the accelerator and the revs will jump a certain amount ( about 500-600 on what seems to be like a pre throttle?) but it just wont "open up" any more. not a problem when in neutral....
What are possible problems?? The only thing the mechanic found was maf & battery.
Throw some ideas my way
Thanks!

Hi Montego and :liebe011:
No, the CEL has not come on (phew) though it revs fine in neutral, runs slightly rough on idle.
Throttle position sensor you say? How does one fail? I have had a couple of mechanics say it could be a coil. Eeek

I've had it diagnosed a couple of times and the battery and MAF sensor were failing so I had them replaced. Mechanics haven't worked out the reason. THe car has lots of power in first and second then bam, in third+ it just drops out in power.
I'm also having a few electrical issues, i'll ahve to go to an auto elec. Mainly, when the radio is on, it switches to cd then radio (regardless of a cd being in). The doors lock by themselves at times, and the abs/TCS lights come on at times. Sometimes, hot air is blowing trough the vents when the heating/cooling is off.
Thanks for the reply montego

Hi 85_305 & TheGetter,
S***, that would drive me crazy! I got really worried when it first happened, I thought the car was overheating and the vents was going to melt. It is rare for it to happen now but i can't work it out either. Also, I think I have seat heaters. There are cables under the passenger seat and a little box. This seat has no power movement. Not sure if they work or not, I have no button for it.
Catalytic converter i going to be expensive in Australia like every other part. ****, to get a simple gasket i gotta buy a whole kit which is a F'ing joke considering it costs me 2-3 hundred dollars.
Which brings me to this question which is related to my other post Whre is the egr valve.
Considering I am stubborn enough to not pay a whole kits worth for one intake manifold gasket kit and one throttle body gasket, can I use form-a-gasket or similar to reseal the parts and will it be sufficient?
Cheers!

I actually had (or was supposed to) my fuel filter changed when I first got it (I'm the second owner and it has been looked after) but that didnt seem to be noted on the receipt.
I will get that looked at. I have been thin king about it actually. How much of the vehicle can a Diagnostic scan actually diagnose? I mean, does the fuel pump actually bring up a code?
I will take it to the mechanic soon and get that fuel filter checked.
It starts great, A high perfromance battery really made a diffrence, runs a little rough just third+ seems like the engine brake is on lol thats the best way to describe it. I love it though, its the best car ive had. (well maybe my 351 76 ZH MARQUIS could compare).
