So I got in my car, turned the key, it went to start and immediatly died... so I turned it over again and it turn for a few seconds then started and it sounded like it was running rough so I gave it a little gas and it seemed to clear up. I proceeded to drive then. as soon as I hit drive it started to act weird. there was hesitation and then when I got out of the parking lot I was in the **** thing wouldnt get above 3k rpm. I mean it stopped exactly at 3k. It felt like it was being limited by the comp at 3k cause it had the rev limiter sound to it. I put it in N and reved it again and it would only hit 3k no matter what. I played with the shiftronic a little so I could get my speed up but the **** thing just wouldnt get up there and i had hardly any power... so I pulled over in another parking lot and turned it off for a few sec and started it again. I floored it and the rpms finally hit. it hasnt done it again and its driving normally again. it was just that one time. I did not receive any unusal lights on the dash not even a cel. anyone got any ideas?

I was just a tad freaked out being that this is my only means of transportation. do I need to maybe replace a timing belt or should I check something? I just cant afford this car to go out on me...

I was having the same problem with my 2005 Sonata. I took it to the dealer and the check engine light wasn't coming on for them so they could not tell me what was wrong. One day the car worked fine and other days I couldn't get it past the end of my street. My light finally came on permenantly last week and I took it to an auto parts store and had it tested for free. It turned out to be my Camshaft Position Sensor and Crankshaft. The parts are about 170.00 and I am not sure if you can repair it yourself. For some reason I can't find a Sonata manual for my car anywhere. But at least you can have them checked and see if that is your problem. Hopefully this will help you. I was reading on it and it could have went out because I have not replaced my timing belt and its been 80,000 miles.
P.S. if anybody has any info on how to replace this I would love to know.
