I figured if anyone would understand my depression it would be you guys, lol. When I decided to get a new car, I went through several choices before arriving on the 09 Sonata SE V6 w/ popular equipment package. Unfortunately, this is the ONLY one I want at this point (gotta have those leather trimmed seats, lol).
Downside: I can't find it for less then 24,500 (and even that is pushing it). Doing the numbers, with 4k cash down and 1500 for my trade in, my payment would be 315/month on a SEVEN year loan... That's just too much for right now. I don't really get why it's so high but that's the reality. If I got the 4cly. GLS I would regret it later because it's not what I want.
So, bottom line, I'm depressed because I'm sick of my increasingly ugly 97 accord and want a new car. Stupid reality...

Invoice for the SE V6 with Pop Equipment is $23,865. You can probably get that for at least $23,500. Minus the $2000 rebate, $21,500. Minus $5500 in cash/trade, $16,000.
Obviously you need to consider taxes and fees on the $23,500, but it sounds like unless you're getting a ridiculous interest rate, you should be able to get under $300 a month on a 6 year (yikes) loan. Just be responsible and remember that the '09s will be around for a while--you've got time to get yourself the best deal.

Not everywhere. If you plunk down $10,000 Cash or have a $10,000 Trade you certainly would not be paying Tax on $23,500. Tax laws however do differ

I second that, they practically give them away at the end of the model year.

It's only money :) You'll make more later, but you've gotta weigh brokeness against happiness.
The way I see it, I'd rather be happy than miserable, and being broke just makes me work harder which lets me ask for a raise.
Do the math and keep shopping around, and I'm sure you will find a deal that will work for you.
That being said, I wish I could get a deal like that :P I'm paying $512/month for 7 years due to a terrible interest rate.

In all my research (dealer sites, Kelly, Edmunds, etc) I haven't seen anything for 23.8... Is that pop eq package w/o sunroof? that might be why. I want that **** sunroof, lol. And the interest rate in my original calculations is only 5%

lecatpuke is right, you should be able to get it for pretty close to $21,500 or maybe even a little better (even through KBB says most people are paying $23,600).
I have found that the car buying program through Upromise (the saving for college program) does a pretty good job of prenegotiating a good deal for you. I was looking at several different cars, and the Upromise price was very consistently just under or just over the Consumer Reports bottom line price and way better than the Edmunds True Cost or KBB prices.
I just checked and the 2009 Sonata SE V6 with the Premium Equipment package (I am assuming this is what you wanted since it is the only package offered on the SE) through Upromise is $21,960 (of course this was for my St. Louis zip, yours might be slightly different).
I don't think you need to be a member of Upromise to be able to get that price (only to get the college savings bonus for you Upromise account if you are a member). Even if the dealer that Upromise works with isn't convenient to you, you might still be able to use it as a negotiating tool (along the lines of: I can walk in to your competitor over there and get this price without negotiating or haggling, what can you do for me). I was actually able to do even better than the Upromise when I got my 09 GLS I4. I would highly recommend the Upromise site as a good research and negotiating tool, since you don't even have to be a member to use their tool.
Can I post the link to the Upromise car buying program? I don't consider it spam, since you don't have to be a member or sign up to use it, and I found it to be a very useful and helpful tool?

so you have to have the '09 huh? because you could find an '07 V6 or '06 V6 for a song and a dance... i bet you can find an '07 SE V6 or even LX V6 for about $15k or less..
but if you must have the '09, you should also check Fitzmall (i know, your probably nowhere near it, but for comparative pricing - they are usually fairly low priced) and take that wherever you go to look.. i see SE V6's on there for as $19,600.. of course, adding the package cost will make it go up, but its a starting point

Where is it that whatever cash you put down on a vehicle, that amount isn't taxed? That's pretty sweet. I was illustrating that tax (at least in VA) is calculated on the price of the car prior to any payments or rebates--sort of like getting taxed on a product in the grocery store before using a coupon. Sorry, I forgot to factor in Delivery, $695. To redo my math, 2009 Sonata SE V6 with the Premium Package: MSRP: $25,995Invoice: $24,560Negotiated: $24,000 (or close) Minus Cash/Trade/Rebate of $7500: $16,500Depending on the vehicle tax rate there and on what amount you pay tax/tag/license/fees, it could be upwards of $2000 on top of that. You could end up financing $18,000 or more, which at 5% for 6 years would put you around $300 a month. Since the rebate expires 9/2, I would go ahead and accept that you aren't getting one on this promotion, and you're going to wait for another one. In the mean time, look in to getting yourself a pre-approved line of credit when you're ready to start shopping again. Chances are the dealership will beat your interest rate so they can take in the interest. Also keep your eyes open for demo cars and any other used '09 Sonatas that meet your billing. You can probably score an even better deal if you sacrifice the first few thousand miles on the car. Having time on your side when shopping for a new car is your biggest asset. It gives you the freedom to walk out knowing you don't have to get one right away. It also gives the sales manager heartburn knowing he has to offer you a better deal to get you to stay. Just go in there knowing exactly what you want and don't budge!

That a good one as many of us do not pay Tax on Groceries. Take out, non Food & Hot foods are taxed though. With Cars Florida is an example for you! You only pay Sales Tax on the actual purchase price. That means Rebates, Cash & Trades will lower your Tax liability. Again this varies from State to State http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_dealerships_in_the_USA "Many times a customer will offer his or her car as a trade-in in hopes of offsetting the final price paid for a new(er) car which the buyer is interested in acquiring. If this buyer has full ownership of this car (owing no payments to a bank or finance institution), the car will not only offset the selling price but also lower the sales tax paid on the new(er) car in most states".
