Hey guyz,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Very happy with my now 2yr old GLS V6 having done 22k miles.

One thing which im not able to figure out is a sort of thunk noise which always seems to happen as I accelerate beyond 9-10mph. Am thinking it comes from the
tranny - but am no expert. No other symptons/complaints.

Showed it to the dealer when I went for the airbag re-calibration, but dont think the dealer bothered too much about the sound with all the publicity the airbag issue had received.

I do all the regular maintanance/oil changes/air filter etc

Any comments? Thanks in advance.

Is it a one-time thing that clicks once when you start your drive in the morning? Or does it appear every time you stop and start driving again (like at stop n' go traffic)?

If it's a one-time thing -- it's your ABS self-check, which is normal (and good).

Otherwise, I can't help....

mamamia thanks for your quick response. It happens every time the car is parked (off) for a bit and I restart. However, not during stop n go traffic.

One thing I can say for sure is the speed dependence - occurs at 9-10mph. Is that the upshift speed from 2nd to 3rd for auto?

MiamiLX, you seem to know these TSBs well! :57: This TSB appears to be a good explanation for the momentary sound.

I'll stop losing sleep and go back to enjoying my sonata
Thanks for your analysis

Same here. I was going to ask about that myself at some point but never have. I figured it was common but I was still clueless :P
