Okay, here's what: My SF acted up yesterday. Took it to 3 places and ALL said my water-pump's acting up should be replaced. It's under warranty so I took it to a dealer. He bypassed the whole water-pump issue, basically refused to service or replace it stating it not yet broken. Took it to another dealer - same answer. Question is, my warranty ends in a month (5 yrs.). I need to get that changed and the dealers know about my warranty expiring and they are pushing it. I know to change the water-pump it's heavy work, so they are refusing. How to make sure they change it .. that's my question. In other words, how to BREAK the pump so that they now don't have an excuse and thus they have to change it!?

The dealers are not changing it and I know for sure as soon as my warranty is over - it'll go. What else is left for me to do? Of course, i could write to Hyundai, raise an issue with consumer forum, etc. but by that time my warranty is over. Also, it's not that I am taking a perfectly working copy and dismantling it - just making it stop AFTER it's almost already not working.

perhaps you should document all your dealer findings and the unwillingness of your dealer to help resolve your problem under warranty and contact the better business bureau. afterall if what you say is true, you could theoretically have a case against them. maybe with the backing of the bureau they could help get your matter resolved, cause it sure sounds to me like your dealer isnt very honest. i know the dealer is going to try and squeeze out whatever they can when they can, but if its a genuine problem covered under warranty by law i believe they are forced to. otherwise like i said, contact the bureau. guess some dealers are better than others though...

Dear BMN,

Don' t do anything stupid. A failed water pump has definite identifiable symptoms known to most non-Hyundai mechanics.

Do call:

Hyundai Customer Service is more than happy to help with U.S. Hyundai vehicle concerns but is unable to address questions regarding non-U.S. products.

You can reach us at:

Thankfully, every visit had a corresponding invoice from dealer, i.e. customer reported problem and their observation. I collated all these, went to the nearest dealer and showed him and told him (a) I am contact Corp. office in case it's not resolved (B) Also, reporting to BBB about this. They again did a wriggle-wriggle. I did what you folks told me and reported the whole matter. i work @ a corporate which has global offices, thus translators were available and I literally kicked some *** in S.Korean office. After which, today I got a call from each of the three dealers who are also willing to *work with me* in identifying, repairing and conducting various maintenance services at no cost. I wonder other than the **** water pump what else I might need! **** it, I just did a brake fluid flush, power steering flush, my AT fluid is good, etc., etc. Maybe, the only thing I do need is a BG Engine flush, which again many forums say good, many say - never, ever do it!
