Just wondering. I change my 04's(48,155 miles) oil every 5000 miles with Mobil 1 synthetic. last oil change it went thru 1.5 quarts and 1 quart on last interval.
How much is your's going thru? Service manager said its completely normal. Also, when running with oil cap off it seems like a TON of blow-by!!! I have changed pcv. Car has had regular oil changes its whole life with good oil.

My wife's 05 has 37k miles. Change every 3,750 miles and it doesn't use a drop between oil changes. Sounds like a problem to me.

you could have a leak somewhere or maybe a seal is goin bad and the engine is burning it up. i would say on the next oil change use max-life instead. i had an oil leak on mine and the max life actually reconditioned the seals enough to stop it. definitley stick to synthetics or max life in these cars, they dont seem to like anything else.

Quickest way to see if you have an oil leak is take some cardboard and put it under the car overnight, then check it in the morning. I didnt even know i had one till i parked on some concrete over night and someone else actually pointed it out to me :(

mine goes through a qt every 1000 miles. has since new and still did it after its engine got rebuilt. dealership refused to fix it saying it was normal. i stopped caring about this car years ago and simple reuse old oil from other cars to top it off since i travel 500-1000 miles every week. havent had an issue in over 50k miles.

yep, dealer fixed some easy stuff and oil consumption is within Hyundai limits. So i guess if i do 7500 interval like is within "limits" the car will be less than half full of oil. Wonder what they would say about that. This is not a "let your wife drive" car.
Guess I'll go looking for a throw away American man. car.

Maxlife stopped a leak in my old Dakota so it might help.

My experience has over the years has been that some very good engines NEVER use a drop of oil over a 5,000 mile change interval and some other very good engines may use a quart of oil every 1,000 miles or so.

A part of the difference is driving style. Driving 80 mpg across a Texas highway in August will consume more oil in a "healthy" engine than driving 50 mpg across California in March. But, much of the difference is just the luck of the draw.

I currently have a vehicle that has always used about a quart of oil every 1,600 miles. So, every 800 miles or so, I add 1/2 quart of oil. I prefer to keep the oil level close to full, rather than run a full quart low.

My usual oil is a 5w-30 oil. I experimented with using Mobil I 10w-40 "High Mileage" oil and cut oil consumption by half. But, the engine, using 10w-40 oil uses about 1% more gas than with the 5w-30 oil. So, there is a trade-off either way.

As long as your engine needs less than a quart every 1,000 miles or so, I would not worry about it. Just check your oil level every 500 miles and add some oil whenever you get to be a quart low.

One advantage of adding oil...oil analysis from Blackstone Labs shows that the additives from "fresh" top-off oil restores the additives in your oil that protect against sludge formation. Because I add about 2 1/2 quarts of oil between changes at 5,000 mile intervals, almost half of the oil in the engine at 5,000 miles is "younger" than 5,000 miles...the "average" age of the oil is closer to 3,000 miles, and the oil has the clear gold color of new (or newish) oil, not the dark black color sometimes seen after 5,000 miles.

Yea, i here ya. I read everything I can about oil/analysis and agree. I have dabbled in race motors, off-road, diesels and 2 strokes. I also find it funny that all new cars "recommend" 5-30/5-20 oils now adays. The real benefit is gas mileage and enviromental issues and not protection; ever notice Hyundai even says 10-40 al the way to 20-50 in owners manual above 100 f?
I bought a Hyundai for warranty and reliablity(someone that actually stands behind their product) I cant believe i cant have my wife drive it for 5000 miles while Im deployed and not worry about running it out of oil. Hyundai dealer showed me a tsb regarding consumption and it says pretty much wont do anything until 1 qrt/1000 miles?!?!?!?!
