hi everyone,

i just joined today! hope to learn a lot here. ihave a santa fe 2005 GLS FWD and so far its been a great car. my husband and i are considering getting a jayco popup camper model 1206 and have had conflicting things told to us by different people (yes, we are both ignorant about towing!) the popup has a dry weight of 2340 lbs and a dry hitch weight of 310 lbs. is the hitch weight within limits? also need to know exactly what needs to be installed on the car before it can tow - hitch? sway? brake control? transmission cooling system? what else is needed? who does all this? i called the dealership and they said they DON'T!

Unfortunately that's a bit much for the Santa Fe. If I recall the maximum tongue weight for your 2.7 FWD is 270. The weight of the trailer itself is within spec, you'll just put too much strain on the hitch and ball.

I'm in the same ballpark except I have a 2.7 4WD. Lame duck 2,200 pound max. My friend's Audi wagon can tow more. :o
