More info, including NHTSA information: According to NHTSA: QUOTE Make / Models : Model/Build Years: HYUNDAI / ELANTRA 2008 Recall Number: 08V429000 Summary: HYUNDAI IS RECALLING 65,000 MY 2008 ELANTRA WITH 2.0 LITER BETA ENGINES. THE FUEL PUMP MOTOR MAY NOT HAVE THE PROPER UNIFORM INTERNAL ELECTRICAL SURFACE CONTACT. THIS MAY CAUSE THE FUEL PUMP TO PRODUCE LESS PUMPING PRESSURE THAN REQUIRED TO SUPPLY THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. Consequence: POOR ENGINE STARTING AND HESITATION MAY RESULT. OTHER ENGINE PERFORMANCE ISSUES MAY ALSO RESULT INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP SUBASSEMBLY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING SEPTEMBER 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI AT 1-800-633-5151. Notes: CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV. I found this by going to NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation and then plugging in Vehicle > 2008 > HYUNDAI > ELANTRA > FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP in the drop-down menus.

I'm not exactly sure which cars are involved as far as version, but I can tell you that I had my fuel pump replaced this past monday since I inquired about it after I read people complaining online. The technician at my dealership told me it took approx 2 hours to do, but I would plan on not having the car all day to be sure. Thats what happened to me.

QUOTE(LilBean @ Aug 30 2008, 02:54 PM) This is not that big of a deal, once the technician gets your car, it should take them a maximum of 30 minutes to do this repair. All dealerships have been sent enough of the new pumps to cover the Elantras they have in stock (on the lot), so make sure to call before you bring your car in to verify they have one available for your car (provided your car is included in the recall). Any time over and above the 30 minutes will be due to other cars in the shop before yours and the time it takes to do the paperwork.
I contacted the service dept of the dealer I recently bought my car at, 2008 CA emission(does this matter?)elantra gls, and he was like if your car is affected, wait for Hyundai to send a letter, then I asked if they have done a lot of these, he said no. What should we do, where does it show my build date? thanks.

QUOTE(LilBean @ Aug 30 2008, 08:30 PM) I was not aware that they were sending the letter... ANY time you bring your car to the dealer for service, they are supposed to run your VIN through Hyundai's vehicle information system to check for open recalls and other such things. This will show if your car is part of the recall or not.
We had Hyundai send us all of the affected VIN numbers for the cars we have sold at our dealership, and we are being proactive and calling our customers to schedule the repair, instead of waiting for them to get letters or whatever. Your dealership sounds as if they don't have a clue...
If you PM me your VIN, I can run it for you and let you know if yours is included in the recall.
PM sent, thank you.

I got this done the day after I read about the bulletin, and my dealer did it under an hour. It took about fifteen minutes for them to bring my car in, and then it was another half an hour. And that includes them adjusting the doors to add the speed lock feature.

I got mine replaced a week ago. Took more than an hour, including waiting in service queue. I noticed the cost of the service is $130 something. That's gonna be billed to HMA, of course. 65,000 times 130 is like millions. I wonder if the pump manufacturer gonna eat some of that.
