Hi

I am replacing a timing belt on a 1999 Hyundai Accent 1.5 SOHC.

Instructions say the engine rotates clockwise. Is that determined by facing the front of the engine or by sitting in the drivers seat???

I already have the job 1/2 completed so I don't want to bump the starter at this time to determined which way the engine rotates.

Many thanks

Harry

Thank you.

I turned the crank pulley and rotated the engine 2 times CCW.

Do you think I may have damaged the engine?

Thanks again.

Harry

not if you only turned it by hand, make sure you have all the marks lined up and then when the belt is fitted turn the engine by hand clockwise by two revolutions to make sure the engine turns freely

Hi

I completed the timing belt and other gen, ps and ac belts yesterday.

I used an electric impact wrench with 250 lbs capacity to remove and retorque the crank pulley bolt.

I used a 10mm offset boxend wrench on the water pump pulley bolts while laying on my back under the car.

Next week I'll recheck the belt tensions. So far so good.....knocking on wood.

Harry
