my 2007 sonata has an xm/fm/am/cd/mp3-cd factory stereo. i've burned mp3 cd-s, but the machine doesn't seem to be able to read/recognize their content even though computers can read them.

where can i find the correct specs for making a cd that it likes?
is there some special directory structure it needs?
a file naming convention?

i didn't find what i needed in the user manual. i've burnt with nero and winamp for no joy.

anyone know have some advise?

All you have to do is make a data CD with MP3s on it, nothing special. What are you using to burn the CDs? Are the disks complete and finalized? Are the files MP3s and not some other format such as WMAs?

I personally use Deepburner to make all my burnt media. It's a very simple and free program that works very well. It also can burn ISOs and music CDs. If you continue having issues, it may be worth trying out to confirm it's not simply a software issue.

iTunes does the trick for me. A couple of suggestions:

If the files still won't play after trying different software, try converting the ID3 tags to v2.3 or eliminate the tags altogether. Most of the other tag versions cause errors (in my car anyway).

Also, VBR (variable bit rate) mp3's can cause errors too. If you're files are VBR, try converting to 192 kbps or 256 kbps.

Good luck.

You could use a special program to burn but the windows utility works just as well, just drag and drop to the cd drive and burn as a data disc. i had an afrtermarket head that would read mp3 cds, i know for a fact if your head will read mp3 cds, then this method of burning will for sure work.

I had the same issue for some reason you can not burn a "mp3 cd with nero" you need to burn a data cd. I also didnt use nero the second time i did it, i just used media player. worked for me

This might be irrelavant but I know in a lot of cars you have to use CD-R's and not CD-RW's... Every car I've rented is this way. Not sure how the Sonata's are...

I use iTunes as well, and some songs play, others don't. They're all .mp3 files. I'd consider myself pretty computer savvy, but I have no idea what an ID3 tag is or how to convert or eliminate it. Help me out here...

Edit: scratch that. It's amazing what you can learn by actually clicking on "Help" in a computer program once in awhile. Pardon my ignorance. :whistling:

Same here. Mep doesn't recognize anything burned using the Windows burn utility.

I usually have issues with Windows Media Player as well. The car will only recognize about half of the files on the disc.

iTunes FTW.

I have used both the windows utility, which is btw Nero, and my Nero licenced software and both have successfully created MP3 disks with between 110 and 120 songs. They are all tagged and display on the lcd panel on the head unit. All of mine are 128 to 256 kbps files. I use the cheapest CD-R I can get because they often get damaged from heat and I just burn another from the saved image.

If you create a file structure for each artist, or album then you can go to random directory as well as random on the disk. Nice if you want to just play "travellin" music, instead of anything on the CD.

My first one I just dumped all the songs on the CD - subsequent CD's I've used the directory (or folder in windows speak) option to sort out albums, artists or genres.

The 08 single cd player is actually a pretty good unit and seems to not be too fussy. I would think that an un-finalized cd might be the problem for bda

I use MusicMatch Jukebox (the original, not Yahoo!'s crappy version) to burn, rip, name and organize my CDs. All my tracks have built-in album art and I never had a problem with the Sonata CD player reading a mp3 track. All my files on my music drive on my PC are converted to to vbr. Like other's said, I think the key is creating data CDs instead of music CDs. I've been doing this since my first car with mp3 playback capability just because I like to create two "discs" and it's easy to know when I listened to all tracks on both "discs" on a CD and when it's time to put in a new one. As a matter of fact, the Sonata mp3 player will play some mp3s that Windows Media Player reports as being corrupt or unplayable...go figure.

eddie windows xp uses a basic roxio burning prog not nero
they had a lot of problems when it was called ez cd creator
they would conflict if you installed a full version of creator
at the time and had to offer a patch

You may be right when using the cd direct you can't tell - but when using windows media player the recording plug-in is Nero Fast Burning.

BTW ez CD Creator became Roxio not Nero - Nero has always been the main competitor for EZ and Roxio so I think you have them mixed up.

I use iTunes. Works every time for me so it should for you.
Click 'edit' on tool bar
Click 'Preferences"
Click 'Advanced' tab
Click "Burning' tab

Switch to burn as MP3.

I don't use burn as data cd unless I am backing up files for my comp or bb
Not sure if it matters what format your songs are in, but it should convert automatically.

WEIRD thing about iTunes. It won't let you burn CD's of songs you bought from the iTunes store.... Yet another reason to steal music.

That's not entirely true. It won't burn m4p files as an mp3 CD and it won't let you convert them to mp3. It will convert m4a files (iTunes Plus) which don't have the copy protection.

However, it will allow you to burn m4p's as regular CD's, which you can then rip to mp3 format. That's how I deal with mine. It's kinda a PITA, but it works like a charm.

I use Freerip3 available from www.freerip.com it's simple and needs no special downloads. I have found it creates totally compatible MP3's and allows you to specify your bitrate to allow more songs per cd or better quality. My old ears can't tell the difference between 128 and 256kbps in the car when it's muffled with the wind and road noise. BTW I do not have any connection with this site, I just have used their product successfully.
