It DID have 4 coats of self etching primer on it. (acid based wear a respirator)

My mother ran it over sorta so I had to redo it. I got lazy and also didn't want to waste my expensive body filler on it so I just sanded it a bunch and 1 coat of etching primer because I was almost out. Then I used metal flake and blue fusion paint.

Because I an very anal I will most likely redo the paint at some point.

I painted 6 coats free hand then let it dry for 3 hours after 5 clear coats then took the car out for a spin at 130 mph (it cured the paint)

little spots you see are water drops. I washed it a bit

also the middle is more grey than you can tell like factory.

Looks good, I plan on painting mine as well, but I want to just paint the middle section of it the same colour as my car, tango red, to get a two-tone effect.

If you prep it correctly Certain paints should be ok.

Surface prep it by sanding with 220 grit. I used a $50 mouse sander.

I then used 400 grit by hand EVERYWHERE then

Sand a lot or your paint will have orange peel.

Orange peel is like when you peel an orange and the skin comes off. Happens with paint to if the surface isn't prepped right.

The most important step is self etching primer.

Your first coat of that needs to be very light almost a mist coat

2 more of those totally coating the whole cover.

Then one sorta heavy normal coat. You can recoat every 2 minutes so it's not a big deal.

This is what I use it's VERY smooth. You can get it at walmart in the automotive section.

Then use this:

and this

Remember LESS is sometimes MORE :)

Normal paint is fine. I've had regular off the shelf paint on the block of my Mustang for 3 years now and still looks like new, and if you know 5.0's, they make more heat that about 15 of our little accents. High Heat is really only necessary when getting into the 300 degree area, where-as that plastic cover might get.. 140-150. Only concern that has to be addressed, that Glock did, is the fact that it is a plastic. Any paint will work, but after awhile, will start flaking off due to the plastic flexing constantly. Plastic paints are best, and I am quite fond of Krylon, always had good luck with their stuff.

Thanks for the info on that paint issue.

Becasue Im pretty sure that many of us out there looked at the High temp paint and was disappointed at the colors available.
Guess Ill be doing mines in the next few days.
