I just bought a 2003 Tib GTV6 (6spd manual). It currently has low profile 215/45/17 tires on it.

I live in one of the coldest, snowiest regions of the lower 48 states (Adirondack Mountains) and I'm not going to get far with the current tires in a month or two when the white stuff starts flying.

Will regular profile all-season or winter tires fit on the 17" rims? Or do I need to get new tires AND 16" rims for the winter months?

thanks in advance!

I would recommend 16 inch rims IF they clear your brakes (they should, I believe base model has a 16 inch rim on it) Your best bet is to check with a tire dealer, they should know what size tire and rim combination will work, so as not to upset the speedometer etc.

Base tires are 205/55/16, so they should fit no problem. If you search around you could probably find someone selling their stock 16s, maybe check the for sale forum over at newtiburon.com People sell off their 16s all the time when they get aftermarket rims. You might even find some with snow tires already on them.

Or get some 17" winter tires (though you'd have to mount & balance them whenever you change them). I don't think I'd try a higher profile though, since at best your speedo will be off, and at worst it won't clear the fender wells.
