Good day all

I have a Hyundai Accent RSi 98 model and I have a jerking problem when accelerating in different gears. Jerking is most apparent in 3rd gear the rest it is not as noticeable 4th and 5th gear it is there but very slight.

Now I have head the engine opened as my injectors were faulty and they ruined my pistons so I have had new pistonts put in head overhauled new valve guides etc. now the problem is still there new injectors new head pistons etc,

So now I am guessing electronics somewhere? anybody point in the direction i need to start looking

the jerking in 3rd gear is really rough as if the engine is going and stopping

running it in fifth gear it feels as if the engine goes then suddenly just looses power then goes again.

Any help please as i'm on the verge of driving it off a cliff. :(

Regards

Craig

Hi!.......if you are still running the original plug wires, they are probably well-overdue for replacement & if faulty, could cause exactly the kind of hesitation you describe.

Also, check the vacuum hose between the surge tank (plenum chamber) & the fuel pressure regulator is connected & not split.

Good luck,
Nick. :)

Spark plugs where changed about a year ago maybe even less..

had the air flow sensor tested and well the reports came back it is faulty, and that is not the cheapest item to buy in this country any body got any ideas on who to test one of these things??

a faulty airflow sensor will cause engine pinking, but bucking ??? not to sure about that.
spray some water onto the plug wires while the engine is running, you will see arking if they are defective.
do you use Sasol fuel???

HI

I also drive the 150 Rsi 98 Model. Had the same kind of problem but in 2nd and 3rd gear. Car jerking when accelerating. Neigther spark plugs nor wiring was the problem. Had the whole fuelinjection system checked and a some of sensors before it was fixed. Car was at the Hyundai dealer for almost 3days. Mechanic not 100% as to what exactly was the cause, but relates it to fuel starvation.

Thanks for the info Rikus,, but currently got it by some guy who speciliazes in fuel injection systems. so I am hoping to have some sort of answer within the next couple of hours will let you know what the problem.

Cause looking at the age of the cars it could be a similiar sort of problem.

so heres hoping I get some good news soon..

What I am thinking of is, that there is a carbon build-up in the combustion chamber, causing the jerking. Signs for this are, that the engine jerks when under load (accelerating), and will drive quite ok when cruising or only slightly accelerating. I normally chase the car up a hill with alternating deep throttle (and jerks), so that the combustion gets hot enough and burn out the carbon.
Take note, that all Hyundai’s should use only unleaded gasoline.

K well there can't be Carob build up just had new pistons installed, head skimmed valves cleaned, new valve guides, head gasket, etc.. Aslo put in a new air flow sensor as it seems some point in time my gave up the ghost. and assuming the spark plugs/cables are okay well replace them in the morrow regardless

Now the car is still doing the same thing basically bucking the minute I third gear.

Now this evening I noticed something different, my head lights and dash board lights, were how can I put it flickering/dimming even while I driving over 3000 rpm.. Could the battery be on the way out or alternator not charging properly, and could this be causing the bucking movement. also when I Parked the car the idling was sporadic not very stable and the lights were flickering away.?

either that or the engine is being starved of petrol.

well problem solved alternator was on it last legs, shoving 15.2 volts into a car can not be healthy, but the new one seems to be doing its job with no problems.

So once again have a happy riding no problems hyundai

Cheers all for the help..
