I have a 2002 Sonata V6. I have a Pinhole leak in one of the hoses. It is under the car on the frame rail. It is in the metal part of a line at the lowest part of the bend. There is a piece of rubber that slides over this area for protection...
Anyway, Do you think I can cut out a couple of inches and replace with rubber?
I don't think this is a high pressure is it? It seems to go to the front of the radiator area and then towards the resevoir.

Could I try a compression fitting?? I have 200,000 miles on it and don't want to dump much $$$ into it...

you can try to fix it only if its the low pressure one. high psi one will just burst again. they are a bit expensive to replace. low psi is around 60 if you shop hard and the high psi one was 180 i think. my low psi burst and their was no way i was gonna fix it so i just converted it to manual. cant really notice it at high speed but is a bit tough at slow speeds. the high psi one goes from the pump to the steering. low goes from the steering to the res to the pump.

I think it is a low then. Off the top of your head do you know what diameter that line is? It's been a while since I've had to buy hose and lines etc.
If not I'll just cut a couple inch piece and bring it a long.

3/8 i think. are you planning on cutting the bad section out and replacing it? they usually go at a metal to rubber fitting so your gonna need a flair tool.

Hi,

I am having a same problem. Could you tell me how you fixed it? One mechanics suggests to use Fuel Injection Hose to connect both ends after cutting the damaged section.

Thank you in advance.

Sorry I did not get back sooner. I was able to fix it with fuel line. I had a piece in my garage from my project car. I cut out a 12" section of metal steering hose that was bad and then used the rubber fuel line in its place. I secured it with 2 hose clamps at the ends. It's been a few weeks with no signs of leaks. when you cut out the old steering line, make it easier on your self and make the cuts at spots where there is good access, don't limit yourself to the small section of the leak. If you have to buy some hose, I would think the fuel injection hose would be better than standard. I believe it has a plactic membrane inside for holding pressure.
Good luck

Hi,

Now I am confident that I will fix the car with rubber tube.
Thank you.

Updated: I temporarily block the pinhole with a piece of rubber and a c-clamp.

Originally the rubber tube was on the metal P/S pipe, which one end was upward. This end tends to be easily dirty (or causing corrosion) by accumulationg chemicals. Just for Hyundai's information...

The problem is the foam that they put on the line to prevent it from rubbing the fram rail traps water and then the line rusts. I cut out a small section and replaced it with fuel line and two radiator clamps, no problem.
