Hey guys,
I'm having issues installing my JVC HDR30 radio. The harness Crutchfield sent me (which says it works with 2008 Hyundai Accent hatchback with 6-speakers and no cd-changer) looks like this

But the harness coming out of the car look like this

The back of the ORIGINAL radio looks like this

Whereas the back of the JVC looks like this

I know that the JVC radio is supposed to connect to the JVC harness, which then connects to the harness Crutchfield sent me, then connect that to the car harness. The problem is that the car harness seems to look NOTHING like the other harnesses. What the **** is going on? PLEASE HELP!

I take it you have the AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3/Aux in unit?

Like what was mentioned above, all of the connections were changed. That harness you have works for 2006, 2007, and probably some 2008's (the ones that still had the same basic AM/FM/CD unit.) It seems the fancy AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3/Aux unit came about midway through the 2008 year.

Not much you can do except hack and splice if you want to install that radio. Then like what was mentioned above you'll unfortunately be without AM or FM since Hyundai chose to go with a proprietary antenna connection.

Maybe check with Crutchfield and see if they have any updated parts that will work for the wiring harness.

Maybe they figured that with that fancy new radio no one would want an aftermarket replacement.
Come to think of it, I would have probably not changed my head unit out if mine came with that one.

It is decent, but it only has a 3 band equalizer... a far cry from my JVC's 7 band equalizer. Not to mention the JVC had a subwoofer output and was 200 W. Not that there's particularly room for a subwoofer in my car if you ever want to carry anything in the back anyway, but still.

no room? man im putting two 10's that are rated 4000 watts each in my spare tire well. No room? LOL

Btw if you want to do it right solder the connections you splice and cover with heat shrink. Just remember to put the heat shrink on the wire first. :)

The Brown Plug is all of your speakers if your unit is a single disk unit.

The pink wire on the power harness I thought was a switched lead, and it worked until I put a CD in, and then there was no power from that wire, so be careful when you are looking for a switched power wire.

Just call a tow truck and if you call the right people they will bring you out a tire. If not get a tow your not going far on a donut anyways.

Yeah, I think I'm just going to scrap the whole idea and stick with the stock radio :'( I'll hold onto my brand new JVC until (hope to god) someone makes adapters and working harnesses.

I'm not sure if you want to spend more cash or not, but this is what I would have
done if my car came with the nicer/updated stock stereo. I think this will solve most, if
not all of your problems.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I'm just going to stick with the factory radio until I figure out what I want to do. Factory radio is better than no radio at all lol

Also, I guess it's not like the factory is that bad. It is 172 W, 6 speakers. The only thing I REALLY wish it had come with was HD Radio. My aftermarket JVC has HD radio and it makes a WORLD of difference!! Oh well. You can't always have your radio and eat it too.

Correct.

It is double-din, but you can get the adapter to make it single din with a storage space below the radio from Crutchfield and it fits perfectly. Costs 20 bucks.

Get the install kit (single din adapter) from Hyundai, or the Hyundai accessory store.
The one from Crutchfield is not as nice.

just take that pic up to best buy or circuit city (or any other place that does car stereos for that matter) and tell them you need a wiring harness *for your specific year and trim type* they should be able to come up with the right one if given a picture for what you need. the harnesses they sell are usually about 20 bucks but you might have to pay a little more depending on if they have to put in a work around for certain options. I've done a head install in almost every brand out there (chevy is a total ****) and im sure that they have a harness for it. you're gonna want to use a harness so you can get the factory one back in just incase you decide to trade or total the car or whatnot. you could just as easily look up the wiring diagram, which shouldnt be hard to find with google, and connect it directly but its time consuming and a pain in the ****. take that harness back cause it obviously doesnt look like it fits and make sure to bring that pic with you so you can visually see if it looks like it will fit or not.

On a side note, it didnt look like you had the plug for your head. You will need that. after you get the harness for the factory plugs, everything else matches up by color. white/white black, grey/grey black, purple/ purple black *note some may be pinkish*, and green/green black are all for your speakers. you then need to hook up red, black and yellow. it should then turn on and give you sound. you might need an antenna adapter if the stock plug doesnt fit but it should since my sonatas did. also if you have a power antenna its usually the blue white wire. then if you have a factory amplifier system you will need to hook up the blue wire as well otherwise the head will turn on but you will get no sound. once you play match up the colors on the harness you're done.

In refereance to the din, you can get a dash kit from CC or BB (or again any other car stereo place you go, this is just where i go) and it will fit right up and make it look nice, and you even get a place to put your cigs and lighter lol.

I hope that helps you, and i didnt mean to offend you if you already knew the above lol.

There IS NO HARNESS for this car yet LOL... it's only been out for not even 6 months yet.

I could custom wire it, but I'd much rather wait for direct fit harness adapters to come out.

The harness that came with the radio just has the one big piece of white plastic harness, not the 5 million harnesses that the car has. :puzzled:
