Has anyone painted their Tucson calipers and other wheel parts?

I'm looking to paint my calipers a nice silver colour (boring I know but it will make my rims look even better than they are right now). My calipers are getting dirty and have a weird brownish/green finish on them right now.

How hard was it to do? Did you take off the caliper or just take the wheel off and paint it as is (caliper still on)?

As well, anyone paint the wheel drum and sides of the rotors (not the actual rotor but the sides of them)?

I'm including a pic showing the rust and discoloration on the Tucson wheels I'm talking about. This isn't my Tucson but mine are similar to this pic.

TIA,
Dale

Hi Dale

Welcom to these forums- yes it has been done before and there are also covers that you can buy to make it look like you have Brembro discs (Hee, Hee)
Now this was done on another forum and loads of the folk there atr changing their disc pads to ceramic as this stops loads of the brake pad filings discolouring the wheels.

You can of course get these marts off your wheels being really careful and using a ceramic hob cleaner I managed to get mine sparkling again-the hob cleaner I found wasn't abrasive and so is suitable for this purpose. :57:

In fact for some help local to you in Canada you could google tucson drivers and see what that gives you. (This site doesn't appeal with them for some unknown reason) :whistling:

You are also welcome at www.hyundaiownersclub.co.uk where I also write its a Hyundai web site in the UK- very helpful admin who is very knowledgeable if you have a problem.
Hope to see you there sometime.

Cheers

Itza:

Thanks for the reply, I will check out your suggestions for sure.

When you say I can get the marks off my wheels, you mean the area I pointed to in the pic, yes? That's the underside of my rims or is it where the rim (wheel) goes on the axle? I've never taken off a tire before on my Tucson, so I'm not sure if this is part of my wheel or something else.

What brand of cleaner did you use as well? Might be quicker and easier to see if it will come off that way rather than painting it. I do want to paint the calipers though unless they can be cleaned too.

In terms of the caliper sticker or logo, are these on ebay or can I google them to try and find them?

So sorry for the questions too,
Dale

Dale the bit you are pointing to is part of the braking system iTs a rear hub for the disc.

Take your wheel off matey and then you may be able to wipe it clean if not then carefully paint it but use fireproof paint or hi temperature paint just in case .

See you soon at www dot tuscon drivers dot com where you will be able to get help from loads of members who only have the Tucson to worry about.

You can google hyundai tucson itza and find me there too as I do get around some.

Cheers

Itza:

Excellent suggestions and great advice too!

I will look for you on the other forum as well... sounds really good to me :)

I think I will clean then carefully paint these up over the next month or so before I get my new tires for the Winter.

Thanks again and see you around the forum(s),
Dale
