I have a new 2009 Sonata SE that came with the factory installed AM/FM/XM/6 CD changer , external amplifier and USB, Aux Inputs... Not the best but I can live with it.. I have a question about the operation of the CD player that not even the dealer was able to answer.. When playing a CD, all the radio's display screen says is Track 1 or 2 or whatever is playing... According to the owners manual, the display should show the Artist, Song Name and track (if available on the CD).. I have tried many CD's now and they never show anything but the track number.. These same CD's show all the information (Artist / song) when I play them on my PC (Media Center) or load them into an MP@ Player or Ipod.. Anyone have any experience with this system or does your system work as advertised... Maybe I am just doing something wrong... HELP! :whistling:

I'm pretty sure that you will need to make an mp3 cd. Regular cd's dont have the artist/song name encoded on them unless they are CD-TEXT equipped, and for that to work both the player and the CD must use that standard. Computers can tell you the song name because they search a database on the internet, and Mp3 players have the song info because the computer that they got the song from has that information/ its usually also encoded in the file saved to it. Like I said the easiest way to get the artist/ song name to display is to burn an mp3 CD on the computer.

Hope that helps if you need a better explanation.

Agreed. The reason your commercially-made CDs display the song title and artist when you play them on your PC is your CD player reads the serial number on the CD then looks up the album art, song title, etc. on the Internet. Your Sonata has no such capability so it only shows the track number.

i agree with Ocean and Dennis... if the CD is being played on a PC or being loaded onto an iPod/MP3 player from a PC with broadband (always on) internet connection, the CD info is being imported through the web... in order for the CD to display that information in your car, the CD itself (well, the CD case) has to actually SAY "CD Text enabled" or something like that... if it doesnt, it wont work in the car... you should try borring an MP3 CD from someone that has the Artist & Song Titles already encoded into the file and see if that works in your car.. if it does, there's your answer... (im sure someone you know has an MP3 CD that you could borrow to test if you dont have one)

Thanks for all of the inputs... I made an MP3 data Cd (converted 2 songs to MP3) and put it in the car... The CD did play and display the Songs Title so I know the system works... My question is..WHY DID THEY EVEN BOTHER TO MAKE SUCH AN OPTION? I can't think of 1 reason where I would like to take the time and effort to make my own CD just so the song title and artist would be displayed on screen... Especially if I have XM? If I make my own MP3 CD then I already know the information... Do you think that commercial CD's will ever to display the information on the audio system that a home made MP3 CD will?

Many Commercial CD's do display this Data information. Sony started

adding Data back in 1997.

Because if they didn't, when you were listening to MP3 #87 on your CD and it read "MILLI_VANILLI_TR~08", people would say "why can't it just display the track information! It's so simple and it's embedded right in the file!"

Better to offer it than not at all :)

I agree ... since I finally bought an iPod and loaded it with music, I found out how hassle-free it is ... BTW, I also have Sirius, and find myself listening to the iPod less and less. Unless it's in the laundromat.
