Ok, first post.
I bought my 2008 Hyundai Accent stripped bare. I've done a few mods but neglected to take photos because I wasn't aware of this forum. So, I'll start off with this one.
I wanted to find some body side molding because this car didn't have it. After searching and not finding much, I realized that instead of searching for "door guards" and the like... that a better search phrase was "body side molding". Anyway, I found a company that makes them and paints them according to your factory paint color. I'm CHEAP. So, I searched and searched. It seems to me that although there were others selling this molding, the ads were similar enough to make one believe that they were all manufactured by the same company. I eventually settled on a guy selling them on eBay.
Other pricing on the net was ~$140-160 PLUS shipping. As a mentioned, I am CHEAP. So I went with the eBay guy and got them for $129 with free shipping.
Soon after, the guy wrote me to say that the manufacturer had screwed up and sent him the wrong order. So, they took a bit longer to get than I'd expected (around 2 weeks or so), but he was kind enough to offer me a $20 refund for my patience. My net cost was therefore $109.
To be honest, after receiving the product, I was slightly disappointed. It's four strips of plastic with supposedly a few coats of factory paint and clearcoat. I'm in the wrong business. Extrude a few strips of plastic, paint 'em and sell for $100. Then I realized... what do you expect side guards to do, light up, sing and dance? They are pretty straightforward items, and inexpensive compared to repairing damage caused by inconsiderate "door bangers".
Anyway... here are a couple photos of the body side molding, including: the packaging tube, a protective packaging "sock", the included alcohol packets, and the Pro-Bond Adhesive Promoter swab. It was VERY well packaged. Oh, and I've included a PDF scan of the instruction sheet they sent if you want to view that too.
I'm nearing the end of another project (installing security system w/ remote start), so it'll be a couple days until I get the molding put on the car. I'll take a couple pictures after it's on.

Welcome to the forum.Enjoy.
As far as the moulding ,I like the smoother ,cleaner look of not having it.But it is a little "insurance" against door dings.

Ok, got the body side molding put on today. Great day for it, 75 degrees.
I followed the instructions to the letter... except that I did not place them 12 inches above the bottom of the door frame, as specified. Instead, I eyeballed the point on the door that extends the furthest outward. That seemed the most logical place to put bumper guards. Using this as a reference point, I measured it with respect to the indentation that runs the length of the side of the car. I figured that the molding would look better parallel in relation to that feature of the car, rather than parallel to the bottom of the door frame. I'm glad I chose that way instead of their way.

Here are a few photos. I'm happy with the result.

if you think about vibrations and wave travel it makes sense cuse the bumper gaurd is a pause between the vibrations and there fore dulling the sound.. so it should work but ive never seen it proven.

Sounds pretty far fetched to me... Honestly, I don't see how a thin piece of plastic held on with double sided tape (or a combination of clips/tape in factory form) can really do much of anything... It does help save your doors from dents though, bigtime!

Better door seals would likely be of more help. Although for a cheap, basic transportation appliance, our cars seal up pretty good with the factory triple door seals.

Where exactly in my post did I say that you tried it and knew it worked? I didn't! I was merely stating that I didn't really see how a piece of molding adhered to the exterior of a door surface would make that big of a difference in regards to the noise a door makes when it is closed. The molding seems to have nothing to do with it - the doors on my GLS with the molding don't sound any different than the 3-doors without the molding that I've looked at when I was at the dealer or auto shows. That was my opinion - I havent done any scientific testing. I could take them off, but it isn't worth my time to tear my car apart and do sound level tests to prove someone else right/me wrong, or vice versa. I think you were reading too much into my post and chose to attack me on the basis of accusations that weren't ever even made.

It would be appreciated if you could refrain from personal attacks, calling people out, name calling, etc as you have done recently... Do yourself a favor and chill out, life is too short to get worked up over goofy stuff on the internet. No need to give youself high blood pressure at such a young age just because you by chance encounter someone miles away on the internet whom you have a difference of opinion with.

Let's drop this and let the thread get back to its original topic for the original poster's sake. I'm done here. I'm really sorry HyundaiSchmundai that this had to be in your thread. :(

Well, glad to see that exercise has concluded. :whistling:

I'd like to know if others like or dislike the *look* of them.

If interested, as I said before, I'm cheap... so I shopped the net pretty hard. This guy on eBay:
ultimate-parts-store
was the least expensive reseller of these side moldings manufactured by Dawn Enterprises, Inc.
The eBay guy doesn't specifically have Hyundai side moldings on sale right now. However, as you can see from the stuff he is selling, he's listing body moldings for a lot of cars. Since he's just a reseller, I think you could probably email him and ask him to put up an auction for whatever one interests you.
BTW... I went through that whole "make best offer" process with him. He sold to me for $125.99. I really doubt you'll find a better price elsewhere.

Anyway... I really *LIKE* the look of them on my car. What's your opinion?

They actually look much better than I though they would.
Though with my mirrors and handles being black ,I think I might try to find some black ones.Usually cheaper too.
Kinda like putting a piece of rubber tape on a tuning fork, the small vibrations would be absorbed and cancelled outduring the process of traveling through the strip. One because of the composition, two because sound waves from front meeting sound waves from back cancel out and are not additive in effect ,thus elimination any additional echo.
Technically that is. :whistling:

I really like it. I may have to do this myself... my car spends a lot of time in parking lots and I already have a door ding on the passenger side (I've only had the car a little over 2 months).

If anyone has pictures of what this looks like on a darker colored car, I'd love to see it.

You could check out some of the pictures on the manufacturer's website for different colors:
Dawn Enterprises, Inc.
I don't think they have our exact car in assorted colors... but you'll probably see enough to get an idea.

Well, they do look better than I would have thought. I still wouldn't like them on my car.

I don't like dings on my car either, tho.
