So I'm still questing for a new car, and I did settle on Sonata SE V6 w/ premium package. Only problem is that after taxes and the rebate the price tag is hovering around 24k (if I'm lucky). I'm not gonna get a lot for my trade in, and I only have about 4k to put down. Doing the numbers my payment would end up being around 325/month (!!). Not gonna happen right now. I could obviously just get a GLS without the package, but screw that. I want what I want, lol.

So my plan is to work crazy OT and build up as much of a down payment as humanly possible to avoid a rediculous monthly payment. I've read a lot of comments that the sonata's come down in price rather rapidly, so I was wondering if you guys thought they'd be lower by January/February...I'd really like to wait until their in the 21.5 range but I don't know how long my current car will last.

Any insider insight is appreciated, as always.

From MY experience, and MY logic, it's worthwhile waiting for January. But don't waste no time, do your own research, get some quotes on line, even check places like Fitzmall in MD, and once you know prices, GO IN TO YOUR FAVORITE DEALERSHIP ON THE NIGHT OF JANUARY 30 (31st is a Sunday).... The last day of the month is the best day to buy a car (as long as it's not selling like hot cakes) and January is DA slowest month of the year....

MY 2 cents.

It's possible that the price will fall, but I see more 09 sonatas nowadays. If you can wait a little longer you may be able to find good used 09 sonatas. If you really want a new car, and your budget is around 300 dollars per month, tell your dealer what your budget is and go from there. If they cannot give you 300 dollars per month, go try other dealers. If I were you, I would wait until the current car breaks down.

Dealers' financing is traditionally known as NOT the best deal.... I'd shop around... Although in my case, I was able to get an extra $1,000 rebate by financing at Hyundai (which I repaid in full just couple months later)....

(in response to the "sonatalove") First, DO NOT TELL THE DEALER what your budget is. You don't ever work around your car payment you work around the total amount of the vehicle. If you say I can only do $300 a month, next thing you know your sitting on a 72 month loan. ALWAYS work from the full price of the car.

Also, if you really want to save money, from a financial stand point. Find an 09 sonata used, these cars drop in price so fast its insane. If you search online you can find a 09 limited for about $18K with only 8K miles on it. There were 3 posted on autotrader last week.

I am a big fan of buying used cars now after seeing the light. When you buy used from Hyundai you get a 5 year/60K mile warranty.

Just something to think about.

Actually Fitzgerald's (fitzmall) is where I just bought my Sonata. Holy crap, I'm never going to another dealership again. Ultra-low pressure, no price games. Still get the pitch for aftermarket silliness like rustproofing and gofaster stripes and speed holes, but again, very low pressure - seems like they just want to move units and make up the back-end on service.

I was originally going to get a GLS -- but seeing that the SE was only $1000 (base) more, with all the extras... it was worth the $1000 bucks.

The only hopes to get it cheaper than Fitzmall pricing is if the rebate goes up from $2000. Fitz's price is discounted to the bone, I wished I lived on the east coast again! The way the car market is now, that's a possibility. But there's a small chance the rebate will go done, so you gotta factor that in as well.

The rebate is making our cars even more attractive, value for $$$.

Keep driving your current car for another year. Next year you'll be able to buy the Sonata you want now with low miles for the upper teens most likely. Sonata's are the worst car to buy new......unless you can afford it no problem....which sounds like you can't. Good news is they depreciate like 6-8K in one year.

AOL had the 10 WORST Cars to buy new. The Sonata was not in that list.

You can trust AOL. A Time Warner Company

hey yjbeach,
thanks for advising.

I was thinking if you know your monthly payment for 60 months, then you would have already figured out what you want to pay.

http://www.bankrate.com/brm/auto-loan-calculator.asp

I have used that calculator to figure out how much money I should be financing to have a desired monthly payment number.

Also, it seems like you can pay tax, tags, and processing fee separately from how much you are financing to save some money. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Fitzmall sounds awesome but unfortunately I'm in New York... can't really get to Maryland to save a few bucks. That price is really good but keep in mind that's after the 2k rebate, not before. But stil, that brings the price to 23.5 instead of 24.5 which is where I'm at now. Too bad they're not closer.

I'm gonna wait it out as long as I can but my current car is starting to fall apart piece by piece, but all the major stuff is still working. HOwever, I'm 27 years old and I feel like I'm driving a car fit for a 16 year old. I'm over it, lol. I want a new car and I want it soon.

Oh well, we'll see what happens

Never heard of anyone paying those fees separately, however the general advice

given was sound. You never want to discuss payments, or" all you can afford",

because they can always find something with this info to further maximize

profits while finding you less Car. Really!

Most people will put down a down payment which will cover the cost of tax/tags and title.

I would advise anyone to read up on a few websites. www.edmunds.com or www.fool.com before buying a car. The internet is a great tool, but in the end you have to make your own decision.

If you go to a dealer and you feel like your not getting the best deal, walk out. They are not your friend and you don't owe them anything. I would also suggest if you have never worked in a sales commision job to try it. You would be suprised when you see what your co-workers do for a little extra cash.
