06 Sonata V6 (42 K miles)
So I went to get my brakes checked at brakecheck. Steering wheels shakes when I brake...I figured it was rotors.

With some minor fixes, new brake pads, the bill came out to be 320 bucks....so I am thinking I might as well get a set new rotors and brake pads.
I just did a new set on my 06 Maxima and the entire bill was under 3 bill...drilled/slotted, loooks boooootyfull.

- Anyone on the forum bought any aftermarket/oem/ or any rotor other than from stealership or brakeshop?
- Any recommendations?
- I like the looks of slotted and drilled...

I saw some rotors for the sonata as low as 30 bucks...are those any good?

thanks in advance. I did a search, not much discussion of rotors in the 4g section..unless I didn't search correctly.

i, too, bought rotors from eBay.. I got the R1 Concepts Drilled/Slotted rotors. I have not, however, put them in yet. was waiting for my brakes to get down to the pointof needing to replace them. that time is within the next 2-3 weeks. i got the rotors for $140 (total) and bought Raybestos ceramic pads for like $45. my guy will probably charge me around $100 or so to put them on.. that be about $285 total (ish).. i just dont know how they perform since I dont have them on..

and V33 - all rotors get surface rust after you wash them.. but do they rust everywhere else? (i got mine zinc coated so that the rest wont rust)

hmr - stay away from the $30 rotors.. there's a reason they are $30... check the ebay route if you want the drilled/slotted.. if you want regular, you can check either there or Rock Auto online (rockauto.com) and check what they have....

Here are some links for V6 rotors.

I used r1concepts rotor before.
You should order performance rotors for a corrosion protection.

I bought rotors off ebay from the same guy as ddix1026. Although mine were the "premium line". Ive been using them now since June i think and they seem VERY SOLID! I would suggest ceramic pads over semi-metallics tho as they can sometimes feel a lil "mushy"

I am getting my R1 concepts drilled/slotted rotors installed this Saturday. I just went with their kit that included semi-metallic pads.

Check your drilled rotors for cracks OFTEN. Especially if you have to stop hard in the rain.

V33 This ain't no splash mountain cart heh...

I got those R1 Concepts, they look great, and work great too, kinda make a humming noise, doesn't bother me, ofcourse drilled and slotted is just for looks. maybe save some weight with the shaved metal etc... and cool the rotors better... but they will crack if you use them alot for Auto-X etc

thanks guys for all the replies. I havent been on this forum in a while.
I'll check out the ones on ebay!
This is a silly question, but typically brake rotors on a car like an 06 Sonata under normal driving condition...how long do they last? I mean I know a brake shop like brakecheck and midas will probably try to sell you new ones at every chance they get. But realistically, how long do they last. Even though I want to get new ones, I don't want to simply waste 3 bills if the rotors have some life on them.

MM.. I DONT KNOW ABOUT 60K.. IM AT 46K NOW, AND MINE HAVE BEEN "GROOVED" SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR AT 27K MILES... (sorry about the caps)..i just was waiting til the pads wore down to change them both out... but it also depends on how you drive.. if you do a lot of stop & go, they will need to be replaced sooner.. if you drive all highway, 60k might be realistic...

I drive about 80/20 city/highway and my OEM rotors are still in great shape at 62,000 miles. No grooves, no cracks. YMMV.

I bet your rotors where grooved because you did not swap your pads when you had to... just like me.

The ebay rotors and semi-metallic pads (R1 concepts) were installed Saturday, but I only drove my car home from the garage (half a mile away). I'll have to give them a few days of driving and then I'll give my review of how they feel. In any case, they sure look nice under the wheels :57:

My mechanic said the front pads wouldn't have passed inspection. The rear still had life left in them. I didn't ask what shape the front rotors were in though. I have 35k miles in pretty much all stop and go driving.

you have "no vibrations" as a negative? and
