Hello
Our van has 10,000 miles if that.. not even a year old and its in the shop right now as the seal on the transmission died and leaked all over my new driveway! Anyways the wife says its because we towed our popup camper while running AC....

Just want someone to clarify is it ok or not to run AC while towing? I have read many posts and they say it is. My wife called our dealer and they said there is a transmission cooler installed by default with the Entourage. Anyone advice? to help settle this debate?? Towing like 2500 lbs.

thx
Jim

Have towed my full size Caravan using my Tucson and with ac blowing very cold to compensate for external hot sunny stuff and no problems apart from using just a smigeon extra in fuel

Hope this helps you convince her indoors that a/c is not to blame- probably a faulty gasket fitted by Hyundai during manufacture.

Go get the dealer

Cheers

There's no direct mechanical connection between the AC and the transmission. One runs off the pulley on the front of the engine, the other off the crank shaft from the rear of the engine. I highly doubt the AC caused the tranny seal to fail. Sounds like you just got a bad seal to me.

It sounds like your wife is giving you an excuse to go get a Full Size truck to pull the pop up with :)

Seriously though I tow my hybrid travel trailer and a pop up before that with our Entourage. Most of that time has been with the AC running. We are towing pretty near our capacity when all loaded up. With that in mind, we are looking for something with more tow capacity when the van's lease is up but I fear it will lead us to a bigger camper.... It's a vicous cycle.
