QUOTE(andyman32 @ Aug 19 2008, 08:29 AM) It's unusual that they chose to compare the V6 Lexus vs. the V8 Hyundai - both models offer V6 and V8 entries with similar power ratings. And, 5.9s is awfully disappointing for a 375hp motor and a 6-speed transmission. It does almost start to seem that the loaded V6 Genesis is the way to go; the extra $3000 for the loaded V8 doesn't improve performance much at all.
it did seem a little odd to compare these two cars. motortrend tested the car and came out with 5.5s for 0-60. i think that ZF transmission in the V8 might be worth it if nothing else.... also i think the price difference between the loaded v6 and v8 is $2000.

QUOTE(cantfoolthewise @ Aug 19 2008, 07:45 PM) Even the V6 make more sense at the gas pump, I kinda like the idea of a V8 engine.
can i just point out here that if one assumes that the V6 gets 27mpg and the V8 gets 25mpg (also note that the difference is less at 1mpg for city driving) and you assume that one drives 12,000 miles a year at $3.5 gallon, that adds up over the year to a grand total of $125. give me the V8 all day long, any day of the week for $125 a year...... i will drink one less beer a week!!! :P ok maybe not :w00t:

Well, if you only consider the gas savings, sure the V8 makes more sense, but if you also factor in the higher MSRP and insurance costs, the V6 makes a very compelling case. Love my V6 Gen! ;)

yup! i am just trying to justify my purchase of the V8 :whistling: . so i guess one could run that $125/year up to about $600 if you factor in the $2000 price difference over 5 years and the additional insurance costs. i was wondering how much of a price difference you were quoted on the insurance between the V6 & V8??

QUOTE(trekker @ Aug 19 2008, 11:07 PM) I pulled into an empty parking lot and with one foot on the brake and one on the gas both rear tires lit up effortlessly and left behind two very nice rubber trails!

This is exactly why I would never purchase a demo car from a dealership...

0-60 times can vary depending on weather, temperature, track conditions, etc. It doesn't seem as significant to me. I think a better test may have been to compare it against the Genesis V6.
However, I suppose the central point of the test may have been the value equation. It is telling though that Edmunds and all other automotive press are comparing the Genesis against established premium brands. I think it is, without a doubt, an impressive car in its own right.

QUOTE(Carolina Bob @ Aug 23 2008, 02:39 PM) Biggest disppointment was the ride. It did not wallow like the Azera, but every road imperfection was transmitted to the driver' seat and steering wheel.
They definitely cut back on amenities to keep the price down. As for those tingles in the steering wheel and seat of your pants--some of us think of that as "road feel." But preferences here certainly vary. Maybe like Cadillac with the CTS they should offer three different suspensions? The current suspension is between the CTS' base suspension and the middle one.
