It's unusual that they chose to compare the V6 Lexus vs. the V8 Hyundai - both models offer V6 and V8 entries with similar power ratings. And, 5.9s is awfully disappointing for a 375hp motor and a 6-speed transmission. It does almost start to seem that the loaded V6 Genesis is the way to go; the extra $3000 for the loaded V8 doesn't improve performance much at all.

it did seem a little odd to compare these two cars. motortrend tested the car and came out with 5.5s for 0-60. i think that ZF transmission in the V8 might be worth it if nothing else.... also i think the price difference between the loaded v6 and v8 is $2000.

Even the V6 make more sense at the gas pump, I kinda like the idea of a V8 engine.

can i just point out here that if one assumes that the V6 gets 27mpg and the V8 gets 25mpg (also note that the difference is less at 1mpg for city driving) and you assume that one drives 12,000 miles a year at $3.5 gallon, that adds up over the year to a grand total of $125.

give me the V8 all day long, any day of the week for $125 a year......

i will drink one less beer a week!!! :P ok maybe not :w00t:

I test drove a V6 with the Tech Package this weekend. I am well known at my
dealer so he let me and the wife go by ourselves. We tooled around for about 45 minutes in town and on the highway. All the time playing with the controls and
taking the curves. The turning radius is surprisingly tight and the ride is remarkable. I pulled over and let the wife take over and she fell in love with
the car.

The V6 was very smooth and had plenty of power. I pulled into an empty parking lot and with one foot on the brake and one on the gas both rear tires lit up effortlessly
and left behind two very nice rubber trails!

The Tech controls were fairly simple and fun but I needed more time to play and get really familiar
with them. This would be a great car for a long trip as it is very comfortable and
the nav is fairly decent even tho it is factory.

One really neat feature is the cooling driver seat. As soon as I switched it on I
felt it cooling on the seat and the lower back.

I can't wait for the V8 to arrive so I can drive it too!

Well, if you only consider the gas savings, sure the V8 makes more sense, but if you also factor in the higher MSRP and insurance costs, the V6 makes a very compelling case.

Love my V6 Gen! ;)

yup! i am just trying to justify my purchase of the V8 :whistling: . so i guess one could run that $125/year up to about $600 if you factor in the $2000 price difference over 5 years and the additional insurance costs.

i was wondering how much of a price difference you were quoted on the insurance between the V6 & V8??

This is exactly why I would never purchase a demo car from a dealership...

I test drove two different V-6's - not impressed, especially not at anywhere near MSRP. Even the Premium Package lacks some of the amenities of the Azera and the sound is not that much better. The leather on the dash is an odd color of brown and does not look as good as the plastic wood on the base model. It is also tighter seating than the Azera due to the RWD tunnel encroachment and the trunk is smaller without the benefit of a fold down rear seat.
Biggest disppointment was the ride. It did not wallow like the Azera, but every road imperfection was transmitted to the driver' seat and steering wheel.

Insideline usually has high 0-60 numbers for Hyundai cars I dont know why? Last time they claimed the Azera does 0-60 in 7.2 sec, in other magazine and real life it seemed to do 6.2 sec on average. They also said that the Sonata does 0-60 in 7.4 sec when it was actually 6.6-6.8 in other magazines. They either seem to not like giving Hyundai high marks for performance or they take the cars highest time tested and show it hmmm. Some magazines have quoted 0-60 times of 5.4-5.6 sec which is alright for this car.

0-60 times can vary depending on weather, temperature, track conditions, etc. It doesn't seem as significant to me. I think a better test may have been to compare it against the Genesis V6.

However, I suppose the central point of the test may have been the value equation. It is telling though that Edmunds and all other automotive press are comparing the Genesis against established premium brands. I think it is, without a doubt, an impressive car in its own right.

They definitely cut back on amenities to keep the price down.

As for those tingles in the steering wheel and seat of your pants--some of us think of that as "road feel." But preferences here certainly vary.

Maybe like Cadillac with the CTS they should offer three different suspensions? The current suspension is between the CTS' base suspension and the middle one.

Write ups from car mags and other sources....Humbug !
One , two....maybe three persons opinions based on a day or two with a car.
I don't take much from them. Had much rather hear real world. Sounds good thus far from what I can tell. Still to new for me though..... I've suffered for my first year model. That's the risk though.......... It's all good

I'm going to be real cautious about the Genesis, although I am very impressed so far. Just bought the Oct. Automobile Magazine and they seem to agree with C&D review on suspension. Will need some honest real world reports at 5,000+ miles and maybe some long term reports from car mags.
I wrote to Consumer Reports and asked that they compare the Genesis V6 to the MKS, Cadillac DTS and Lexus GS 350 - after they let somebody put a bunch of miles on them.
Just checked my dealer's inventory: 1-2007 Azera (new), 3 Genesis'- one of each type. Been there about a month or so. With the latest financial disaster this week, who knows where the car market is going. I forsee lots of car loans defaulting in the near future because of the no money down and $99 month (for 4 months) sales practices. After 4 months, they jump to 600-700 month for people with incomes of about that for 54 months.
Dodge dealer is offering 50% off MSRP on big trucks and Toyota is offering big discounts on Sequoia and Tundra.
