my elantra is about 1000 miles over the warrenty(wish i knew i had one when i had a chance) and the transmission is not shifting...it was fine last week but on the highway i cant seem to get it outta 3rd gear i have to stay about 45 mph on the highway(in Mass thats a deathwish) if i go faster obv i waste gas and strain my engine..checked the A/T fluid (its brownish kinda looks like oil atm, ill need to change that i know) im not sure how to do that either tho lol ....not sure if i need a new transmission or if its "speed sensor cable" ive heard of..any other ideas aside from droppin the tranny would help me out....ive never been too keen on upkeeping my car for some reason til this year so leason learned i hope not at a transmissions price.....redd

Could also be the Throttle Position Sensor. My (now gone, thank God!) 99 Elantra would not shift out of 1st gear and they traced it back to the TSB. And that was the second transmission in the car.
