Hey everyone, I haven't posted here in quite a while since I picked up my Fairlady Z... which was eating most of my time, but that's now parked until next spring due to the fuel injectors needing to be replaced/upgraded and my wallet being empty. :)

So, back to driving the good ol' Accent. Never lets you down.

HOWEVER-

Lately, my dash has been absolutely freaking out on me. The digital odometer panel will flicker, turn on all it's LCD readouts, then go back to normal. Frequently.

And my guages? They like to all drop to zero... then fly back up to wherever they last were positioned. XD The fuel, however, I noticed, will be quite odd... it may read almost empty.. then fly up to about over a third of a tank. -__-

Also, after running the car for a little bit, I get a strange electrical whine that goes away when I press the gas pedal again, and returns when i'm near stop/stopped. It's *not* coming from the speakers either, checked that.

My only modifications to the car are the AEM SRI, KFX Strut Bar, a set of Racing Buckets, and a set of Pulstar Pulse Plugs. So what the ****'s going on? Could anyone point me in the right direction? The dealer hasn't done anything with it because they can't figure it out, it seems.

:(

*sigh* Thanks, everyone.

The last time I had a cluster completely freak out on me like that was due to a bad alternator. the gauges went whacko, speedometer pegged when sitting still, all the warning lights going off and on, etc... The voltage dropped to a point too low for the electronics to work properly.

Have you been able to pinpoint where this whine comes from that you're hearing?

First thing I would do is put your stock plugs in if you've still got them around. That's the only mod I see that you've done that involves the electrical system in some fashion. Unless you messed up a ground wire somewhere when doing your other projects. I have heard of a number of people that have had those fancy, expensive plugs go bad on them...

You might also want to look around for ground points under the hood and make sure the bolts are tight. Maybe also check the voltage output of your alternator.

Hope you can get that figured out, keep us posted.

i had the same problem with my cluster, but it was when i turn on my headlights(HID Kit in that time) but only when i was driving, when i was park there was no problem. my only thought was to get a bigger battery, since i'm using it with capacitor, amp, HID Kit.

Sounds like low voltage to me too. I would vote for the alternator. the whine can be the bearings.

I'm just wondering why we're even debating this... put the old plugs back in and take it to the dealer, it's covered under warranty.

From what I've read, pulstar plugs only help you if you have some kind of supercharged, or really high performance engine. And if you don't they cause more problems than they're worth.

/could be something else
//but i'd start with those plugs.

factoring in all your symptoms, especially the "whine", sounds like a bad alternator to me.

I think someone posted earlier that its under warranty.
