I need to patch some dings in the paint on the front of my '06 Sonata GLS V6 and its proving to be extremely hard to even find out what color my car is.

The paint code on the plate on the door says "Paint: U1" but depending on where I go online, that can mean Aquamarine Mica, Deep Water Blue, Deep Blue Metallic, Aurora Blue Pearl, Steel Blue... there are half a dozen different colors that come up on different sites using this same paint code. And I know those aren't all the same color with different names because Aquamarine is not even close to the color of my car.

Here is a picture of my car...

And here is a close up of one of the nasty dings. You can see the color and metal flake\pearl very easily.

Here are some of the sites I've tried...

http://www.paintscratch.com/cgi-bin/makepaint2.cgi
http://www.expresspaint.com/productcart/pc/step1.asp
http://www.automotivetouchup.com/

None seem to agree on the color of my car. More are saying that its aquamarine than any other color, but clearly that isn't correct.

Can I get some help here please before the rust spreads? :P

Sorry, I forgot to mention I already looked at that.

Is that really considered Aqua?

Usually aqua is much brighter and much more green.

...

Actually, now that I go and check the Hyundai website where I registered my car, it lists it as being Aquamarine.

I guess Hyundai Aquamarine is a much different color than, for example, Mercedes Aquamarine:

Oh well, thanks for the help!

It makes no difference what the color is called, as long as the paint code matches then the paint will match. Our parts catalog even calls the paint a different name than what Hyundai officially calls it, but the paint code itself is all that matters.

I believe Hyundai officially calls it Aquamarine. Deep Water Blue is the dark blue Sonata, which is not your color. Don't go by the name, go by the paint code.

Better yet, why don't you just buy some from your Hyundai dealer? Then you will get the exact color with none of the issues you are having.

Paintscratch.com says the U1 code is Aurora Blue Pearl Metallic Clearcoat. This is the same color as "Aquamarine". If that is the code on your door, that is the code to use and the correct color. Either get it from there, or get it from the dealer... it will match your color either way....

Be careful here. Paintscratch N2 does not match my N2. It seems after 06 the "pearly" powder white pearl changed. It now matches the W1. It's ok for small stuff but would really stand out on larger areas.

You might try beans suggestion and get it from the dealer. You probably stand a better chance of matching.

Whatever you do, do not purchase the Paint Touch Up pen. They were so

bad that Hyundai decided to give them away, after I bought one of course.

I would not use the outside suppliers information about Paint codes. Go Hyundai!

Paintscratch.com matched up my '06 crystal silver perfectly. But it has the mighty V-6... :rant2:

And that is good news, except... Hyundai did not make a Crystal Blue on the NF's.

For 06, 07, & 08 it is listed as Silver Blue!
