So: tranny shudder and hursh gear change.

Firstly find out the symtoms that mach with Your bad riding from hmaservice.com
Big % that it is caused by clogged or low resitance (or both) valve solenoid (attached to valve body). Every solenoid valve has its own function. You dont have to take tranny down to get valve-body unmounted from tranny.

I have had to change few solenoid valves, and fixed these problems:

* Hurhs reverse gear engagement, it was reverse solenoide

* Hursh engagment from N to 1st and from 4 to 3 gearchange, it was Underdrive solenoide valve

* Hursh 3 to 4, it was Overdrive solenoide valve.

As my electrisity alternator was bad it had had a bad effect on solenoids (and also shaft speed sensors and oil temp. sensor, water temp. sensor). Firsty I changed reverse solenoid with faulty TCM (they both went bad at the same time). Then I changed alternator to new one, after I changed the alternator the gearchange went from shudder to hursh banging into gears - thats when I took the tranny down and apart to investigate. I cut open and checked the torque converter and valve-body. The converter was fine, but there was some black **** in the valve-body. Also tranny one cogwheel had get some little damage from banging gearchange, so it was bludged to fine again.

So ofcorse there was metal dust on the shaft speed sensors , also on the magnet on bottom of the tranny. Its normal they say - after big milage.

I reccon that metal dust just might clog the solenoid valves or even the valve-body.

*So if You change the solenoids and check Your trannys valve-body (for bleeding or cloggings ) there is big % Your ride will be smooth. You dont have to take tranny down to do this.
With this also
* change ATF (tranny fluid),
* tranny external filter,
* clean the magnet on the bottom of the tranny.

If this doesnt help take the tranny down: check the torque converter and cogwheels to find some damage, but I tell You there is a big % that there is none. I must say I took my tranny down way to early. But still it costed me a lot less then a new used tranny (with a risk it might be not perfect). To say there isnt really one to get from the market at the first place, not for 2.5l and in Estonia.
