well my wifes car all of a sudden has a intermettent starting problem it is a 99 elantra and the first two times starting of the day it fires right up no stalling no bogging at high speeds, but the third time usually it just cranks and cranks over almost like it is flooded but i smell no gas and when it does this and i try to start it i hear little popping noises real softly from the trunk.... can a fuel pump be as intermittent as this????? kinda short of cash so i really want to figure this out and get it fixed the first time around any help is appreciated

Check to see if your getting any spark when its acting up, before you replace the pump. There are some sensors that shut off the pump and spark if there faulty.

k will do so what sensor would it be??? i have been doing research and was told it could be either my computer or my crankshaft postioning sensor???? and if i am getting spark is there a way i can test my fuel pump?????

The CKP sensor is easy to check with an ohm meter, do a search for the specifics. The connector for the pump is below a plastic cover under the rear seat. Use a test light or volt meter to see if 12 volts is getting to the pump. If you have spark and there is power to the pump then suspect the pump.
