Your kit would have to have long wires to make it from the ballasts to the headlight assembly if you mount them there. I know mine would never have made it from that far.

However, an excellent alternative to double-sided tape would be 3M's reclosable fasteners. Much like velcro but none of the hairy hook 'n loop. Easy to remove and reposition without that hairy, peeling noise. Adhesion is second to none. I've had mine for two years and they're still stuck onto the body like they were welded in place.

You're not kidding about that "construction-grade velcro" stuff. There are some car companies that use that for fastening body panels on their cars.

@ hugamuto - I just used zip-ties on my ballasts. One is zipped to the windshield washer bottle and one to the battery housing-box-case thing (several zip ties used to get around it). No problems, going on two years. I only did it this way because I didn't want to drill any holes and because I didn't know if I would be changing HID kits, or even keeping this one on there long-term.

let me help b4 the flaming begins.
first unscrew black cap behind lamp.
make a 1" hole or an appropriate diamater for the gourment supplied in the kit.
removoe bulb by playing with the lil paper clip type holder
insert hidharness pins in the factory terminals yellow=+ black=-
insert hid bulb in socket
screw cap back on
find a nice mounting location for ballast
repeat for other side
shud take 30-40 mins
most time consuming steps are removing/unclipping bulb and drilling hole in cap.

He is referring to the factory plug that attaches to the backs of the regular bulbs in the headlight. The pins on the HID kit wiring are inserted into the slots of the factory plugs.

I don't know how much more simply it can be explained. Perhaps you are trying to make it more complex in your mind than it really is. :)

I haven't installed HID's in my Sonata yet but I do have a kit which I installed in my 2000 Tiburon and removed prior to trading it in which I plan to install in this car, possibly this weekend.

The important thing to remember is you are only making one connection into the car's factory wiring and that is through the power connector for the headlight bulb. Think of it as changing a burned out headlight bulb. You would remove the dust cap from the back of the headlight housing, disconnect the power connector from the back of the bulb and then remove the bulb.

Now instead of replacing the burned out bulb you are installing the HID bulb in it's place and plugging the positive and negative wires of the HID kit into the positive and negative connections of the factory headlight power plug. The grommet with the HID wires passing through it is pressed into the hole you drilled into the dust cap, the wires are tucked into the headlight housing and the dust cap is reinstalled. You then find locations for the ballasts and mount them.

One thing that just occured to me is that perhaps your car uses different bulbs than the North American Sonata's? I know that the Korean Tiburons used different headlight bulbs than the North American versions.

I hope that helps.
