Hey all,

I have some 15" White alloys, (I know, I'm already off to a bad start with white wheels).

I am a bit bored of white now as everyone is doing it. So I want to spray my alloys dark, say Gunmetal Grey or Black.

1. Can I use standard paint on the wheels, if so if there a good make I should go for? If not can you recommend a car paint.

2. What kind of preparation should I do before I spray them, what sanding paper, base coat?

3. If you have a cool idea for my wheels then let me know. Check my garage to see my car as it is now.

Thanks,

1) You should use wheel paint... you can get it at any car parts store that sells paint/touchup supplies, etc. As long as you get a specific wheels paint and clear coat, you should be OK... I don't have a specific brand to recommend.

2) If you are feeling REALLY ambitious... you can use spray on paint remover (sometimes called aircraft stripper) to take the wheel down to bare metal. Then you can put on a couple of layers of etching primer... then the paint and clear coat. This is the more difficult way, but the results will be much more durable.

Otherwise, stick with a 200+ grit sand paper to scuff the existing paint before applying your new paint.

3) I like gunmetal, too. I think that would look really nice with the dark red.

Good luck with the project, and be sure to get some pictures of the progress

1) i would use engine paint ( flat ) greatly resistant to heat , breaks get hot and so do the rims and add automotive clear coat .

2 sand the down to the primer of the rims . using a fine grit sand paper (Wet sanding preferably ).

3) leave the clean looking , thats the best , that way your not advertising more than you need to be , it makes it more custom :D

hope this helps
