I have a 99 tiburon with a 2.0 4 cyl. Just started last week and the noise has been increasing. Only happens as I shift it into first and second gear and stops after that. As I let off the clutch going from neutral to 1st it sounds like the engine bogs down or has a tougher time to accelerate. Then the same into second. Once it gets moving into 3 gear and higher it goes away. I do not get that noise if its in neutral and i accelerate or if I roll down a hill. It sounds kind of like a slight grinding noise. or something loose between the tranny and engine? I was going to check the transaxle oil to make sure there was enough fluid in there thinking it may be from low oil. This car has about 175K on it.

Thanks for help

unlikely to be a c.v. joint,(c.v. joints don't grind) you need to give more details such as which area the noise is comming from etc.

I edited the first post. I also noticed that the problem for the most part goes away after I drive to and from work . 25 miles highway driving, don't notice too much stop and go.

hard to tell without seeing the car, but from what you say it sounds like a clutch problem or failing that the gearbox

Well after driving it today, i took careful note to the noise. Sounds like it is toward the the transmission side of the engine. Not grinding but more of a hum. Just when you ease off the clutch and go into first and second gears. Clutch seems fine.

still think it's the clutch (likely the thrust/throw out bearing)

more than likely the clutch, could be the fork either broke or is falling out, also could be the syncros in the tranny
