Hey everyone!
Looks like a lot of knowledge floating around here so I thought I'd arm myself with some of it before I bite the bullet and take this thing to a dealership (if necessary). Very recently (within a week) the shift lock has started to act up - I can't shift out of park to drive even with the brake pedal depressed. However, it's not constant; in that sometimes it works, others it doesn't, and when it doesn't usually if I continuously pump the brake pedal it will eventually work. That would lead me to believe I don't have a problem with a fuse since it does work sometimes; and I'm suspecting its a wiring problem (or maybe hoping?).
The car has about 100k on it and haven't yet had any problems with the transmission or anything similar before. Just the normal wear and tear, flex pipe, O2 sensor, and some minor brake issues (leaky drums).
Any ideas on if this is something that I can a) possibly fix myself; B) a regular mechanic can fix with after market parts, or c) something that only a Hyundai dealership is going to be able to get the parts to fix, and therefore just needing to suck it up and pay for it?
It does work if I stick a pen in the shift lock override switch without fail.
Thanks a bunch in advance!
Cheers, Justin
