Hi,

I've noticed that my transmission takes 1 second (say the word one normally) to kick into gear after I put it in drive. If I don't wait for it to kick into gear and push the accelerator (after it's in drive) then it jumps into gear and lurches forward. Other than this the shifting if flawless. I'm wondering if this is a problem I should have looked at or it's just a Hyundai thing. With my other cars when I put it in drive, I could push the accelerator immediately. If I wait one to 1 1/2 seconds then it goes into gear and I can take off smoothly.

Thanks

I wouldn't say my delay is quite that long on my 08, but the Sonata definitely shifts into gears slower than my Cherokee. All in all, the Sonata does have a fairly slow and finicky tranny :P Though I believe my mom's Jeep Liberty is worse...

Tell me about it! I have to back into my garage in a cramped townhome complex (so it takes a few back and forths) and even the delay from D to R took getting used to! And those few half-seconds add up when people are waiting on you to move your butt!! :bwekk:

I couldn't do that. I have a small garage and backing in is impossible, as

I'm on a slight incline to enter it. I already lost a Side Mirror backing out.

Lurch is alive & well!

The Lag that most of us talk about started on day one.

I doubt a Transmission service is the cure here, sorry.

yes the lag, for some reason I see it on Sonata and Azera. The previous models didnt have it. Im betting if the transmission shifted faster the 0-60 time could be drastically improved. Even though Sonata is fast most cars shift much faster then Sonata lol
