As much as we like our 2007 Santa Fe I'm starting to think we got a lemon. We've been plagued with intermittent electrical problems.

1 - The outside temperature guage went crazy. Repaired under waranty

2- Power door lock on driver's side works only 50% of the time when using the switch on the arm rest (works fine with key fob). Four trips to the dealership so far, three to 'clean conections' and one to replace the switch. Still not fixed

3 - Airbag warning light on dash board lit up. Two trips to dealership so far, one to check connections and one to replace the right front sensor. Still not fixed. Couldn't get a straight answer when I asked if my airbag would work correctly if I hit something with the right front.

4 - Panic alarm sometimes goes off by itself when it rains. This is NOT an accidental push of the panic button. Just today I parked outside a store in the rain. As I walked into the store I heard my panic alarm. I went back out and stopped it. Walked back to the store and it went off again. Went back and reset it. Walked back to the store and it went off a third time. Reset it again while trying to avoid the stares of everyone around who must have thought I was some kind of idiot.

The dealership has been good about it so far but every trip is a 60 mile round trip and wastes a good part of my day.

Apparantly they know of no other customer having any of my problems - has anyone on this forum experienced any of them?

Your dealer is full of it. The following is one of the most common problems the Santa Fe has.

"3 - Airbag warning light on dash board lit up.

Tell your dealer the passenger seat has to be reflashed. If the tech does not know how to do this, tell him, or her, to RTFM.

The other problems you are having are not common.

I have a 2007 Santa Fe and have some of the same problems you have mentioned.

Our air bag light is on again, so will be bringing it back to the dealer (2nd time) for them to take a look.

Also the panic alarm going on by itself has driven us crazy, but has been very sporadic. We've had spells where it would go off, and we would unlock and relock the doors to silence it, just have it go off again a few minutes later. One time I ended up going for a drive and when i parked and locked up it finally did not go off again. I thought that maybe the buttons on the key fobs were too sensitive, so I even popped them open and shaved down the rubber knob that presses the button on the board, but yesterday afternoon and then again last night at 3:30am the stupid thing went off again. I'll be talking to the dealer about that as well.

The other thing is that sometimes when we go to unlock our Santa Fe in the morning, it is already unlocked. Its been driving us nuts, and we've been figuring that we must have forgot to lock it again, but now i'm not so sure and am thinking it may be related to the panic alarm issue.

Have your dealership check to see if all the rubber hood mounts are there, I know of a few cars where one has fallen off and it allows the hood to move just enough to trigger the alarm.

And if your airbag light is on, you do not have a functioning air bag if you were in a front impact crash.

These problems are identical to those we had with a 1999 Toyota Sienna (just traded in for a '08 Santa Fe FWD Limited).

Solution was to snip the wire in the passenger door going to the door lock sensor which appeared to have an intermittent short. This cured the following symptoms; Power door lock switch popping open 1 - 20 x's with 1 to 5 sec. spaces between (even while driving) and Alarm going off in the middle of the night.

Auto electronics specialty company here in Cincinnati found the cause by placing 4 to 6 recording (line graph drawn on paper) voltage testers on the car at various locations over 3 days for 24hrs. each day. They found that one switch sending very faint signals to the cars cpu and said if sniping the wire didn't solve the problem then a new cpu would be the next attempt. Thankfully, the problem vanished. Only drawback was unlocking the passenger door with a key set off the alarm thereafter. Toyota dealer had 3 attempts to fix and never even came close to solving this problem. The Toyota was about 5yrs. old when this occurred.

We all want to believe that our dealer is the expert on these cars but sometimes they are not the best place to find a smart and determined mechanic used to figuring things out on their own and not just reading the manuals.

Good Luck and hoping your experience doesn't become mine (again).
Dan

My SF 2007 Limited alarm was on 7 times just 1 hour ago after I opened the hood and refilled the windshield fluid.
I suspect the hood because when I lock the SF, it did not blink.

Finally I found the connector under the hood lock hardware
which a relay switch's cable is coming out.

When I touch and change the connector cable position a little bit
and close the hood, intermitently SF does not blink when I lock it.
It must be the relay switch or the cable connection.

Tomorrow I'll check with a multi meter to see if the relay send good on and off signal to the connector.

I remember this faulty alarm was on several months ago. and we thought we push the remote's panic button accidently. but now I can guess it was not the panic button.

Since my SF is imported from US, I can't get warranty in Canada. I'll try to find if I can fix it with some cable soldering. Wish me luck.

I checked it again and found the problem is in the relay switch and latch design.
It can not be fixed by just replacing a new realy switch.
So simply I disconnect the cable connector located under the latch
or upper part of fans.

The connector will be short circuit when the hood open.
So by disconnecting this connector, no sensing goes to ECU
even if the hood is open or closed now.

Now no more unwanted alarm siren by the hood opening or the faulty realy switch.
Only one thing bad is a thief can open my hood without the alarm siren.
but who care. anyway I have an insurance that will cover if my SF is stolen. :whistling:
