Hey, just purchased a 08 Accent GLS with the built in XM head unit. Unfortunately I like my Sirius I allready had better. I tried to plug the power cord into the 12v plug and then the output into the Aux Input next to the 12v plug but I am getting interference when the engine is running. I am cheap and do not want to purchase a filter so I decided to take the radio out to connect the FM modulator that I had in my old car to the antenna at the back of the radio. My problem is, there is not a normal plug for the antenna to the radio.
Does anyone know if there is another connection to the roof antenna somewhere that has the standard antenna plug???

Thanks,
Matt Mitchell

Probably time to buy an adapter.I think the antennae wire runs behind glove box,up A-pillarand across headliner. But most likely is a one piece unit. :D

When I had my radio out, I saw the antenna cord. I had to uhook it - twice. And in my experience with radio's in the past, I'm confident in saying that the antenna plugs in our cars are the same kind that I've seen every single time I've ever pulled a radio.

I have replaced, removed, wired to, etc... hundreds of stereos and I am telling you, it is different than the standard style of plug. This radio has XM built in with a single CD and MP3 capability and an Auxillary Input.
The antenna cable is a two wire white and black (each small, about 22 guage or so) with a small retangular plug. I would take pictures and send them to you, but I don't want to keep pulling the panel off and weaken the plastic tabs eventuall creating a squeak or rattle.
I looked on the HMA Service website and they list the radios used for 2008. None of the pictures of the back of the radio look like mine. I tried to look at the 2009 radios but the pictures won't download.

I guess my only option is to buy a filter listed on Crutchfield for about $20 and hope it works.

Too bad Hyundai couldn't have put a ground loop isolator on the power plugs so people could use the Auxillary input for what they were made for.

Let me know if anyone else knows where a connector may be.

Thanks,

There is definitely a very proprietary antenna connection on that unit, saw that on the diagram that shows the back of the radio on hmaservice. Bummer. They probably changed the entire wiring from the antenna on back, I don't see them going from a regular antenna plug to this little funky thing somewhere in the line but anything is possible. That really is a bizarre way to go at it. They've basically eliminated anybody from installing an aftermarket radio since they won't have a way to plug in the antenna. And I doubt there are aftermarket companies willing to make a conversion adapter for this.

Those that say they have the regular plug on their cars must not have the AM/FM/CD/MP3/XM/AUX radio... That unit was only in the later production run of the 2008's. Seems like the better part of the 2008's have the same AM/FM/CD unit that's been around since 2006.

Problem is fixed. I had to buy an inline filter for the Aux. Input. It is a PAC filter with 3.5 mm plugs on either end ($20). This removed the whine completely.
I have noticed however that this factory head unit with XM has no bass and loud highs on XM or through the Aux. Input. If you turn on the regular radio or use a CD, it actually sounds great.
Oh well.
