Hyundai got new place in JD Power list.

It is in number 13 where the best place was 20 ... good jumb

I think the new 2005 sonata is the reason of this jumb.

Are you agree with this survey :innocent:

You posted this yesterday on one of the other Boards here.

And you must say to yourself..."What does this have to do with

the Sonata, specifically?"

Though some surprises there, like American cars being so dependeble suddenly, and some unsurprising news, like Land Rover being so bad (hey, snobs, when will you get it finaly, snobs?).....

..... I don't think this study has much value. How dependable and reliable a car is -- is monitored OVER TIME..... 3-4-5-6 years, yes. 3-4-5-6 months = NO.

wow mercury is second !? I would have expected hyundai to finish better but its an improvement nonetheless. I think the reason is the 2005 Sonata and the older Santa Fe's.

but interestingly, the prices of used Cooper S' still hover around $18,000 to $21,000 depending on the mileage between 50,000 to 60,000 miles.

I really question the validity of these results when you look at some of the differences between divisions of the same manufacturer. For example, look at the placing of Mercury compared to Ford. Mercury products are Fords, built on the same assembly lines with the same parts. Putting different badges and trim on a vehicle is not going to make it a better car. It makes no sense.

Hmmm... Consumer Reports also commended the Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan/Lincoln MK-whatever siblings on being really reliable. How did they they make such a amazing turnaround in a short period of time?? I drove a Fusion not too long ago and it bored me to death.

Not only are they sought after cars, oftentimes you have to drive several hours out of your way for service! My nearest Mini dealer is in Pleasonton, about 60 miles away but in reality about 2-3 hours away (traffic nightmares on 205 and 580).

Now that I took the time to actually go to that JDPower link, I'm a bit confused.... If the chart is "based on responses from more than 52,000 original owners of 2005 model-year vehicles" than it does not reflect the newer Hyundai generations, including the new generation Sonata.

But the chart is more dependable than I originally claimed here, thinking it measured only the 2008 model year reliability.

But it clearly shows American-made cars as having BETTER reliability.

Any reliability study is only as reliable as the consumers and dealers reporting the numbers. A Lexus buyer/dealer is not the same animal as the Toyota buyer/delaer. Same with Mercury and Ford.

Of course it pads the numbers if the dealers catch things first and I am sure every Lexus dealer goes over every single car that comes off the truck before a customer even sits in it! I would!

Now for Land Rover, I'm really disappointed but not really surprised. I've heard from people that you spend more time in a Land Rover loaner than you do in the one you paid for!
