Hi,

i have 2001 2.4 santa fe, was driving yesterday in heavy rain for about 3 hours, and my santa fe started showing an engine fault light. the car starts but idles poor and doesnt seem to have much power. I have checked the egr etc and they seem to be ok. cant get the fault code yet, as its sunday and no garage is open.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Did you go through any large puddles that could have gotten water into the system? Sounds like the usual signs.

Have you tried to add some dry gas?

no puddles, was driving for about 2 hrs without a stop on the motorway, then when i slowed down and started to drive again i noticed the problem and engine light. checked the egr, vacuum pipes etc and still no luck.

thinking it maybe a hyundai garage on monday.

What is dry gas?

I have very similar things happen in the past from either intentionally going through puddels or accidentally driving into standing water along side of the road. Water would get into the fuel tank and fuel lines somehow and it would cause the car to either stop running or idle very badly.

Dry gas will remove any water that got into the fuel lines or tank.

Do you have any auto parts stores where they will read the CEL code for free like we do here in the States?

It was a break in ht lead number 3, wouldnt have found it without checking the ecu fault code. which came up with the problem.

Bad weather had nothing to do with it. Glad that it was nothing to major and thanks to all the replied.
