I Have a ticking noise coming from the front when I first start up the vehicle and only lasts for 5-10 secs maybe 15 secs tops.. I assume I think its from the engine..any ideas?

My 07 clatters for about 2 seconds or less. That sound is dry lifters waiting for full oil pressure.

If yours is taking as long as 10 seconds, there is something wrong. Usually the first thing to check is your oil level. If too low, you can get excessive lifter clatter.

The second thing is clogged oil passages to one or more lifters usually caused by dirty oil or infrequent oil changes.

Thirdly, you could have a hydraulic lifter or two starting to ware out.

ahh ok thanks for your help david-paul-1 first I will get my oil changed I have always had my oil changed on time since the day I bought it brand new.. I just hope there isn't anything wrong with it, oh god I have had problems allready and its only 3 years old (2006) so far break light switch, tensioner pulley and back door handle all replaced and only have 65,000 kms on it and there is also a slight nock in the alternator and the dealership said it will be fine.. ya fine my **** well I am glad I got the extended warrenty, sigh phew

btw could it be from lack of oil pressure and maybe a oil pump going??

Not likely to be an oil pump.

The Santa Fe may have mechanical lifters. I haven't researched this subject since mine is still behaving itself.

If they are mechanical, and continue to clatter, there is a possibility that adjustment is necessary.

Hyundai_81,

Your 2.7 liter has hydraulic lifters. Have you ever had your engine professionally flushed??? I do this every 30-35K miles as routine. You want to have this done at a shop....not Jiffy Lube...that uses the Texaco Havoline engine flush. This is a motor oil base with solvent and detergent...not kerosene or Marvel Mystery Oil.

It is pricey, probably $50 bucks, but it does a thorough job. Your noise is likely from clogged oil galleries, not from a low oil pressure output from your oil pump. This will show as a warning light for low oil pressure, the red silhouette oil can, on your dashboard.

A little history....the Chrysler 2.7 liter is famous...notorious with lawsuits galore...for sludge build up in the oil galleries. What does this have to do with Hyundai? Look up Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance on wikipedia. The roots of our 2.7 liter engine development trace back to joint engine development with Chrysler of the original 2.5 liter Delta.

Also, my nephew blew his 2.7 liter engine in a Plymouth Sebring at 67k miles from lack of routine oil changes and never getting his engine flushed.

Get it flushed, twice if needed.

Byron

thanks byronguidry3732 for the advice, I will be sure to look into that. and it hasn't done it since though, very strange. but I am keeping a eye on it and looking in the service manual and see what it says for an engine flush.. that way if I am not at the km's for one and the motor blows it should be under warrenty providing it says when to do that.. if not I will have to get it done real soon.
