Yesterday I recieved my Hyundai Accent AEM Short Ram Intake.

Installation took approximatly 20 minutes, you need a flat head screw driver and a 10mm socket wrench to complete the install. instructions were clear and easy to follow, you need no prior car/mechanical knowledge to do this modification

Everything fit well, although i found the headshield/ecu bracket to be on the flimsy side. The intake sits within about 3mm from the engine (i was worried about rubbing but all appears to be fine so far)

The intake sounds deep and throaty, it defitily increases the "fun" factor of the car, that being said there is no noticable increase in performance (aside from me driving it harder :) )

Was it worth the $$$?? i would say if your looking for performance and this is all your going to do then look else where. if your looking for a sporty sound, consmetic appeal, and an ovral big increase in "fun" factor then sure it money well spent!

Yep, I had the negative battery terminal disconnected for the entire install and let her idle for about 5 minutes

Well, being as you have to disconnect the battery and physically unplug the ECU so you can take it out and swap it to the new bracket, then that would be a yes.

It's impossible to install it without the ECU being reset because you have to unplug the ECU.

I had this intake, and I also did not notice any performance gains, other than it making the car much louder. I recently have put my stock intake back on because it seems to make the car shift smoother and the powerband is more consistent without the short ram. It's probably much different for a 5 speed, but it just doesn't do well with an automatic IMO.

See, 2.5 is just too small for any major performance gains for an intake in my opinion. The Secret Weapon intake for my corolla that I semi-transferred to my accent came with a 3" filter/pipe. It sucks in massive amounts of air and I've noticed faster acceleration in general on both vehicles. It's especially noticeable when the throttle is nearly or entirely floored, as that's really the only time huge amounts of air are really necessary as far as I'm aware. I don't really see how 2.5" or 3" would matter since your throttle body is the bottle neck and 2". In my 04 Accent the pipe size didn't make a differance until I boredout my throttle body tomatch the size. thn the power gains were noticable.

^Exactly. You can put anything you want in there and won't notice a thing without a BBTB or bored out on the stock.

You guys are confusing the **** out of me. I was about to buy a AEM SRI,
but know I don't know. Will this mod give me more power and better gas
milages or not? I drive an automatic if that makes a difference.

Chances are it will give you a small increase in gas mileage (around 1-3 mpg).... that is assuming that you DON'T just floor it everywhere to hear how much more badass your engine sounds with a SRI on it lol

Also, you SHOULD theoretically see a relatively large increase in throttle response because of how much shorter the pipe is, but the density of the filter also has a lot to do with that and I have no idea what the filter's density is that comes with the AEM one.

Well I drive more then 1000 miles a week, so any MPG improvement makes
a big difference on my pocket. How about a power improvement? Any?

Well I don't have the AEM one, but I can honestly tell you (and I'm not fooled by the sound), that the throttle response and the torque have been largely increased on my Accent. I'm not sure about horsepower, as you can't REALLY say that it's been increased unless you have either a dyno test to prove it or you have amazing abilities that no one else has. Torque on the other hand is relatively easy to feel the difference of. Just haul a bunch of heavy **** around and see how much less your car struggles with starting up a hill with an SRI than with the stock setup. Check out my cardomain page for pics and such of my setup.

EDIT: Just like I just added this one as you were posting THAT reply lol
