Hey all,

I bought a used Thule set up from a friend. It has the square load bars and the wide mouth bike racks (2). I also have the fairing. The whole setup was fine on my previous car (a Mazda). With the Sonata fit kit (2169 - http://www.rackattack.com/product-pages/th...t-kit-2169.asp) and following the directions precisely, the front left hand clip is digging into my front driver door weatherstripping and making it fray. All other doors are just fine. I've taken the whole set up apart and put it back on numerous times to try to prevent the left front clip from damaging the weatherstrip.

So, I'm wondering, if anyone on this forum has a similar set up, can you tell me what the position of your clips/load bars?

Thanks.

Have you tried contacting Thule for customer support?
This may be a common problem, but none of our members seem to have the answer you are searching for.

Never hurts to bug the guys who built it :)

The directions that come with the fit kit indicate exactly how to install the racks. I have the same racks (for my surfboard) and have no problems. Remember there are different clips for the front and rear racks (the clips with the nubs go in front). If I remember correctly, the front rack is ~12 " from the front of the sonata and the rear rack is set 27" behind the front rack. Good luck.

Hi Rick -

I followed these directions - http://www.thuleracks.com/instructions/5012169,%202169.PDF - they seem to be in line with what you posted.

Actually, after seeing the fraying, I changed it up to reduce the damage to the weatherstrip. Not sure if that helped or not. I moved it so the load bars were ~25" apart and the front load bar is about ~13" from the front windshield.

Thule hasn't responded to my questions.

Do you have pictures of your set up by any chance?

Tx.
