my wife's been asking about getting XM/Sirrius/satellite radio in the Sonata. She doesn't one the add on style that is installed out of dash. How much trouble would it be to install one out of an 08 in dash? Or would it be easier/cheaper to buy an aftermarket one to install?

Does the Wife know that XM was absorbed by Sirius?

If you have the factory radio you're basically SOL; I think the only way you can run a Sirius is to stick a dock on the dash and kludge wire it into your factory radio. I don't know if you could fit a factory radio that includes XM; frankly I wouldn't try.

If you replace the factory radio with an aftermarket radio there are several options. There's a dedicated Sirius radio that lives behind the dash (there's plenty of room in there) and connects to the back of your aftermarket radio. You'd need to install a PAC SW interface if you want to keep your steering wheel audio controls.

You can also install a Sirius Connect Dock in the center console. Your Sirius portable radio plugs into the cradle and the cradle plugs into an adapter that plugs into your aftermarket radio. This lets you control your Sirius from the radio and completely hides the Sirius radio, but you can unplug your Sirius and take it into the house and plug it into a dock connected to your stereo.

Bottom line: it's possible if you replace your factory radio with an aftermarket radio.

no they havent
they are still basically two different services
and will be that way for years and if you want stern
on xm it will cost you 4 more bucks a month
i have a alpine head unit with sirius box under the dash
if your looking to put sirius in that is the best way to go
it also runs my ipod

I just went with an aftermarket head unit that could handle XM. I have an Alpine and it's great. Only downside is the steering wheel controls don't work. Being how limited they were, I didn't see that as a big loss. I'd probably feel differently if I had an 09. Course now they have XM built in so I'd probably be happy with the factory unit. Good luck!

Not to hijack this thread......

I have an early 2007 Sonata the did not have XM installed.

All I want to do is add the antenna.

Is that possible?

No, it is not possible. you should just wait a year for Sirius/XM because the headunits that can support both will come out. Upgrade now is just a waste of money. And if you have money to waste PM me for my address and you can mail me a check for any amount. I am not picky.

i dont know where you get your info from and even the article that was posted is mostly wrong. the ceo was on howard and said one radio is a long way down the road he said about 10 to 15 yrs didnt mention ala cart but said if you want howard and nascar on xm it will be 4 bucks more a month, a year ago he mention pick and choose so maybe down the road that might happen but for now it doesnt seem like thats the plan.. for the next few years both service will stay seperate

if you want to hear what mel karazin (ceo of siriusxm) said
