I just purchased a used 07 Azera, and realized the emblem on the steering wheel is already peeling. I called the dealer (and Hyundai corporate) and they're saying I have to replace the entire airbag assembly - JUST TO REPLACE THE EMBLEM!! :w00t:

Anyone else had this issue? Anyone know if the emblem is fastened (with rivets) to the plastic, or just stuck on with adhesive?

Cause if it has over 10,000 miles that's normal. :whistling:

Sounds as if someone may have tried unsuccessfully to remove the emblem and left the wreckage as is...

I would guess that since the air bag is involved rivets would not have been used. How would you like to have a rivet imprint on your cheek if the bag inflated? Not sure though. Most other emblems on the Azera are stuck on by adhesives so I bet the steering wheel 'H' is attached the same way.

Well, I have 21000 miles on the vehicle. I've seen other forums, and it shows the emblem being held on by rivets (the Tiburon, for instance, ... I'm guessing it's for safety, since you don't want the emblem flying off separately when the airbag goes off). Anyway, I'm bringing it to the dealership to determine whether it's a "workmanship" problem, or something else. Hyundai may replace the assembly. I think it's cheasy to have an emblem that is pealing, especially for a luxury vehicle.

My guess is someone was trying to debadge the car and got cold feet. Some folks are not happy to display the flying H.

Update...

The dealer replaced the entire airbag assembly under warranty
It's a bit extreme, but that's what they get for having poor workmanship on something that should show no wear throughout the life of the vehicle. The dealer also provided free roadforce balance to fix the slight vibration at 70-75 mph.

I'm loving the warranty

Yes.....it's gonna come in handy when an O2 sensor goes out and the dash cracks around the passenger side airbag. :whistling:

Hey Mike, you forgot that one other item. :P You know, the real problem that only
a very few of us have, but most do not have according to a certain unnamed individual! :cat:

BTW, our Azera is to be rectified first thing Tuesday morning. The new 640 parts are in and waiting!

I will report on my observations later. :whistling:

Like Campoly, I will also be interested in your opinion of the 640s. I hope you are as impressed as I was.
