We recently purchased a new 2008 Accent GS invoice + 1500 rebate it was a really good deal. Have been really happy with it.

Anyway we saw a used 2003 on the same dealer lot. Initially they wanted 7,000 we talked them down to 6084 out the door- but I felt 4500-5k was probably a more realistic price for the car. It was the hatchback with the only option being A/c and automatic transmission.

I was thinking of picking it up as a beater it has 48,000 miles unfortunately they wanted 2500 for a 3 year 30,000 warranty.

I've read(on these forums) mixed reviews about the reliability and longevity of the motor and automatic transmission regardless of maintenance.

is $6084 a decent deal if you're going to the retail route without warranty. It's essentially buying from a private owner at that point.

I feel they took the car on trade at probably ~$2.5k and are just sitting on it for the "right" buyer to come along.

I am assuming this is from the same new car dealer. That is a very good price for that car. Trust me, i'm sure it won't last long on the lot. The car is 5 years old with only 48k on and with the way gas prices are that's a steal. I would estimate they gave the 1st owners $4,000-4,500 for it. I would go for it.

I'm not sure that would be a great deal or not.

You don't get any warranty. The dealer probably put it through the same checks as one would have at an oil change, so you are a little better than buying from a private owner, but not much.

Also, it is recommended that the timing belt be changed every 60,000 miles, so you are only 12,000 miles away from that expense.

I have an '03 Accent also, but I do not have air conditioning, and I have the manual tranny. Actually, it has no options at all. It has given me ZERO problems, and I am at 117,500 miles. The only repairs I have done is the timing belt, and front pads and rotors.

I purchased it new for $10,000 in February 2003.

Good luck on whatever you decide.

well my wife bought her used 2005 Accent GLS with 44k miles a few months ago.....cost of the car was $7999..but they talked her into getting an extened warranty and gap insurance (what a waste).....so we calculated it out and with a 6 month lease,by the time the car is paid off it would have cost $15,000
