Can this TPMS light problem be fixed? I ask because it seems from reading on the net that it has been ongoing for at least the past few Hyundai model years.

We just bought a 2008 Santa Fe Limited w 18" wheels. It only has 350 miles on the OD and 50 of those have been put on by the service department. In less than two weeks they have checked it, and reset the computer twice. before the day is over the light is back on (steady).

They want me to bring it back in, and say that they may have it for a "week or more". I want to know if it can be fixed or if it is something I'll just have to live with?

I got it back from them yesterday and went to pick up my wife. As soon as she got in the vehicle she said "a smoker has been in here"... so much for that new car smell...

A week? WTF? At the absolute worst it could be the TPMS module, and if they order it, it may take a couple days to get it in, then an hour or two to install it... In the meantime while it's ordered, there's no need for you to leave your Santa Fe at the dealership.

I would just love to know why they think they need to keep it a week or more for a TPMS light... More than likely it's just a bad TPMS sensor, and can be replaced while you wait if they have it in stock. Hardly something that justifies keeping it for a week.

This is not a complex system they're dealing with here. A sensor in each wheel talks to a module that tells the light to turn on. It's either a sensor or the module; nothing more, nothing less.

Time for a new dealer.

No, it's not that simple.
My '08 LTD went to the dealer 5 times for the same reason. Now it's there for a couple of days while some regional service guru gets involved. Gotta love those loaners!

Problems with electronics systems can have a million obscure causes that would baffle even the most experienced technician. But while a hidden short circuit between the discombobulator and your left toenail might explain why the first three repairs failed and you had to keep coming back, what possible reason could the dealer have for keeping your car a whole week?! It seems hard to believe.

Same problem on mine. Light was on when i picked it up but was so tired of dealer i left with it after being told it was a simple reset. Tokk it to local dealer and reset it. Back on it 10 miles. Went back and they reprogrammed it. Light stayed off for a while then next day its back. MY service guy then ordered the parts to replace sensors. Says he resets once then replaces it. Will need car for a few hours only. Your guy is jerking you around. My light now only comes on when car is cold(socal cold so 55-65 degrees) then goes away.
