Hello everyone! This is my first time visiting the forum. I have to say I didn't know so many people tuned Accents! I have a Black 2005 Accent GT. It is the 1.6L with an auto tranny, fog lights, stock alloy rims, and stock wing for those high speed runs! LOL anyway. I really wish it was a standard transmision, but hey, I have to work with what I have. Plus my Accent is in great condition and I think it has a lot of potential.

For a while now I have wanted to work on my Accent and give her a little more punch. I have had a few problems holding me back and I was wondering if you guys could give me a few pointers about tuning Accents.

So here are the issues I am having.

1) I don't have a large amount of car knowledge. And by that I mean I can change my oil and fill up the fluids :P Any insight on what parts I should get and who to buy from and who should install these items would be wonderful.

2) I am also very worried about voiding warranties. I still have many years and 80,000+ miles left on my warranty. I'm not made of money and I really couldn't afford paying for a new car. If I'm going to mod this car I need to make sure I'm kosher with the warranty!

3) I want to do things right the first time and get my moneys worth. I really don't want to screw anything up.

My basic goal is to replace the stock headers, cat, and muffler. The exhaust system has to go and the muffler is so weak, its embarrassing. I want to open up the exhaust and let her breathe, but not sound like a dime a dozen Honda Civic that farts as it drives down the road. I want a new intake, maybe some new rims and sport tires in the future. I do not want to work on the body. I also do not want to touch the lighting. I love the 2005 body style and I don't want to change a thing. My main focus is performance!

I have a cone intake on the Accent currently that I just installed a few weeks ago. It was a cheap $26 filter that I snugged onto the hose that connects to the air box. I removed the air box and all the duct work that was attached the air box. I don't know if I have done the right thing here. Can anyone let me know if that is improper? I haven't noticed anything wrong and I am very pleased at the beefy new sound my little car makes and the slight power increase. Other than that I have no other mods done to the Accent and I am very eager to start working!

Other than what I have listed, I really don't know what else to do. I have even thought about buying an older standard transmission 1.6L Accent that is dirt cheap. That way I wouldn't void warranties and get to mess around with it all I want. Is this viable?

I could use some advice. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

:whistling: OMG why is it people think they can get any power out of an accent.

First off there arent any real performance parts for an accent. It has a small little economy engine and weak **** tranny. headers, cat and muffler wont get you much of any power and will cost $$$...if you get a short ram intake like some people have here you will get massive heatsoak in warm weather and actually lose power.and there is no real engine management for this car which futher impedes getting any power from it.

sure you can blueprint and make a bunch of custum internal engine parts but you will spend tens of thousands of dollars doing it. my wife has an 05 Accent GLS...and having been working on all sorts of different cars I can tell you you will never get any real performance from this vehicle.
if you buy a standard tranny dirst cheap..you will still have fo factor in cutting the loor out, placing in the shifter, throttle cables, you'll need a new ECU for a standard and possibly a wire harness...and once again after labor and its all said and done you prolly would have spend 5 grand doing the swap!...you could buy a another accent for not much more money.

Well thanks for the criticism. LOL. Yeah it is an economy car, just like the vast majority of cars on the road. That doesn't mean that people can't work on them.

You misunderstand me. I'm not looking for a 10 second 1/4 mile car. I'm looking to get my feet wet and tune my Accent. This is a learning experience for me, and I would rather work on cheap car than frakk up an expensive car. Headers, cat, muffler, and an intake are cheap. $2,500 at most. And as far as a "heatsoak" caused by a short ram intake; have you ever put your hand near the air box on a stock Accent? Its bloody hot! I'm not an expert, but there is plenty of "heatsoak" under the hood of a stock Accent. A more expensive intake would remedy the heatsoak problem by being able to adjust the location of the cone. If I can find some fresh air, I shouldn't have a problem.

A gain of 30-40 horsepower would please me just fine. I guess I'm going to have to go somewhere else to fine advice. Thanks anyway.

hate to burst your bubble but 30-40hp power out of a small displacement 4cyl...is way out of whack...you'll need some serious engine work and probobly would have to build your own turbo kit to get those numbers......headers,exhaust,cats,and a sir would only give you a few HP and would be a massive waste of money....you exhaust system doesnt flow that much nor is there much of a restriction....i hate to break it to you but what you'll be doing is adding alot of noise rather than power.

if there was a decent aftermarket base of internal engine parts and especially if there was a programmable ECU like Hondata makes the one i had for my RSX then you could truly start to "tune" your car.

Turbo Accent Clicky!

People use their money how they like. Its not a waste to throw money at an economy car.

How does a 180 horse Accent float your boat?

2.0L Accent Clicky!

Dare to be different and have fun in the process.

The first Accent is a 1.5L @ 92 horse 12 valve. The second, more cost effective Accent project, is a 2.0L @ 138 horse 16 valve.

I'm not sure of the 1.5L final horsepower, but I'm sure it is a vast improvement over the pathetic 92 stock hp.

The 2.0L final hp is 180 horse. Thats with engine work done, complete performance exhaust, plugs, intake, and NO TURBO..... In my opinion, thats money well spent. With a little bit of engine work, and a turbo, it could be one of the fastest Accents on the road.

I found this one too. A Limited Edition SR Accent. It seems that these were only released in Canada, but that is not going to stop me from tracking one down. These little cars look like a blast. With a 2.0L engine, sport tuned suspension, eibach springs, SR air intake, it comes off the line pre-tuned. There are also hints of a Hyundai turbo package coming out soon. Hyundai has released their own line of performance upgrades that can be found in the link below.
