Hey all,

I know the sonata uses only the sp3 type fluid by mitsubishi/hyundai but I noticed that Castrol makes a import atf. I read the back of the bottle and it says recommended for mitsubishi.

Anyone use this? or does anyone have any opinions on this.

i'm on another car discussion board and I am getting conflicting reviews.
I mean Castrol itself is a big company reputable. They should know what they are doing right?

there has been a huge amount of discussion about this in the past (use the search engine). in short the only fluid that should be used in hyundai auto's is SP111 other types of fluid have been known to damage the auto box resulting in expensive repair bills. it's up to you, if you want to take the chance for the sake of saving a few bucks then go ahead but if it all goes wrong 10,000 miles up the road don't say you hav'nt been warned

I have been interested in these Castrol products so I looked at the bottles. They have a multi-domestic product that can supposedly work in most American vehicles and a multi-import product that can supposedly work in most import vehicles. However, they have a high mileage product that can supposedly be used in American and import vehicles! How can that be? Then why can't the regular product be made to work in both? Makes no sense. I'm sticking with the OEM stuff.

I know i'm looking and i'm all confused.

I see they have a Chrysler +4. I mean +4 should exceed ours right. On the back
it says meets or exceeds +2, +3.

I'm not being cheap or anything, it is just that I would like to know if any of these are compatible cause I don't really want to go to the dealer or special order this cause I don't have the patience right. If I can use this and it will work why not?

I don't see how Castrol, Penzoil will recommend something that will screw up. I mean they are experts at stuff like this right? I can see BS info on something no name but companies like Castrol, Penzoil? These are multi-billion dollar companies.
