OK tools needed first.

10mm wrench
gripping pliars

Ok this mod is to help reduce the air temp going into the intake manifold. Not sure why Hyundai even has this little by-pass happening since all it does it heat up the intake manifold and causes warmer air in the engine. As for you guys up in Canada don't be afriad of the low temps in winter. I ran all winter without any issues, but it is easy enough to reverse for winter if you wish.

Ok as you can see this is from the rear of the motor looking up toward the intake throttle body. The bypass in question is the two tubes labeled A.

Steps:
1) Remove the top tube completely first.
2) Disconnect the lower tube at the throttle body only.
3) Reattach the end of that tube to where you removed the first tube from the motor.

Ok your done, well almost.

4) Take that 10mm wrench and reset your ECU by diconnecting the battery.

OK now your done. enjoy!

Warmer air flowing through the intake is better for fuel economy, so they may have done it for that reason... You get less power with tle less dense warmer air and use less fuel, colder air gives you more power at the expense of more fuel. A lot of the hypermiler guys have been setting up warm air intakes.

Not at all. No you don't you can do it from above. It'll make it a lot easier if you remove the intake tube though.

cold air is denser burns better....less fuel.....

komptek i would not suggest this mod in your climate..the extra heat helps keep the TB from stickin at colder temps .....or you could just undo it before the weather gets cold again.....we have done this mod on many different cars....its quick and easy and works

think maybe they did this as another place to dissapate heat? seeings how our radiators are the size of a postage stamp and thin as one too!

with my SRI and big exhaust, ive noticed the when my engine is hot like after my drive home from work (scan guage reads between 188F and 194F) that my exhaust is much louder and deeper in tone.... not complaining, i think it cool! but im thinking it also has something to do with the hot engine..... i guess.... :whistling:

i never thought about the radiator being tiny. duh.

on a 400km highway drive through some mountains/desert area my water temp was a steady 97C/206.6F most of the way w/ the a/c on.

Nissan's have the same issue. There is a coolant bypass line that goes throgh the throttle body. It does 2 things, it heats the incoming air to improve gas mileage and lower emissions. It also prevents buildup in and around the inside of the throttle body and butterfly valve.

One of the draw backs on nissans is if you do the coolant bypass, you have clean your throttle body at least once every 3 months, as opposed to yearly.

If exhaust gasses and crank case ventilation gasses are recirculated, than our cars will have the same issue.

Well good thing there not. we do have the littel PVC valve, but no big deal I clean my motor enough as well as the air filter so I'll just add this to the list. Very noticebly gain, and made the exhaust sound even deeper

Yah I have a car meet tonight, so I'm hoping I'll get some video with sound of the exhaust under load. Supposed to sound a lot better than my little video.

Ok well i did the bypass, it was hard for me since the clamps on the hoses were facing towards the firewall i had to rotate them and it was still hard to get them loose but i eventually got it all hooked up after some issues, the intake manifold still gets pretty hot but you can keep your hand on it without burning yourself now, we need a thick gasket to keep the heat from soaking into the manifold. As for performance increases, there isnt much to state, i did the ecu reset and if anything the throttle response is better, my muffler is louder(stock) and my intake growls more under low throttle but for a free mod id say take advantage of it especially if your are installing an aftermarket intake.
